Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hey Cynlee,

We actually found out today that 6 extra seats opened up for our flight leaving out of Edmonton on May 6th. She has provided us with separate flights & accommodations, they were quite high compared to what weâ€re paying. Which is to be expected.

Are you going through a local agent?

Jazmin gave us the option of Dolce, Arlequin & Frutos Del Mar. Iâ€d ask your coordinator about it. Have you had any luck getting a hold of anyone yet?

Our TA told us not to worry because she could always book the resort and flight separately, and our guests would still be upgraded with the rest of the wedding group. You could see if your TA can look into doing that? Or I can provide you my TA's contact :), she's amazing and quick to reply!

Most likely if you weren't given the option, then another bride has taken that restaurant already.  They do more than one wedding a day typically so it's very possible that's the problem.

As for down hair, it was SUPER windy when we were there.  I didn't even wear my veil!  I think that's why you'll mostly see up dos.

AD2012- Not sure if your question has been answered BUTTTT, Some airlines don't book with Akumal, for example westjet and alaskan airlines don't book for akumal... Continental, United and transat i know DO book Akumal. Not sure why this is but that is what my TA told me. Also, if you have guests staying at Tulum or Coba, they are allowed to dine with you for your wedding for sure that's not a problem. I had guests staying everywhere at that resort and we ate dinner with them all the time :)

For any of the ladies staying at Akumal. Are any of your guests booking outside of the travel agent having a hard time finding packages for Akumal?

We have been able to find quite a few of packages for Tulum and Coba in May but none of Akumal. I emailed Jazmin today explaining what we have been able to find and asking what their policy was for wedding guests and whether or not they would allow them to dine with us.

I feel like iâ€ve been having an opposite experience with the resort and travel agency. Jazmin has been quite good about responding to our inquiries where as I canâ€t get any definitive answer from our travel agent. Not even an itinerary yet.Weâ€d switch travel agencies if our all our deposits werenâ€t non refundable lol. I think so far our travel agent has been the most stressful and hardest part of planning our wedding so far.

I hope everyone else is having a more pleasant experiencing with their travel agents! :)

Thanks for the info Crsystalz! At first it was quite alarming for me.

That would probably explain why I haven't really been able to find anything.

On the bright side our TA emailed me and let me know that 6 more seats opened up on our flight leaving May 6th. This flight has been sold out since we reserved our seats in early August.

This is what we are doing as well. I read on this thread before that if you didn't want people to know it wasn't legal they would have no idea as you pretty much go through the same ceremony steps as the others ones. From my understanding it is simply the paperwork and bloodtest stuff that is different, so really nothing that guests see.

There are a few differences that anyone who is familiar with Mexican weddings would notice, but I am not sure that most people would.

1, it will be in English instead of Spanish

2, you won't have to sign and ink the paperwork (although i believe the GBP will do this for you if you'd like)

and then you don't have to arrive early and you don't have to get blood taken.  My sister's cousin-in-law is getting married in Mexico and they are getting married the day after they arrived.  I instantly knew it wasn't legal.

So it really depends on your crowd, but to the normal non researching individual, it'll look legit.

Hey ladies,

I'm getting married on May 22, but since we are doing the legal marriage here I actually wanted to incorporate the sand ceremony into the legal one we have here. We have sand from Bermuda where we got engaged, and I'm hoping to be able to incorporate sand from the area we will get married in. Is anyone willing/able to bring back a bottle of sand for me? I live in Calgary, so I can pay you back for shipping costs if you're not from here.

Thanks so much!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
