Hi stylishmeNC - We didn't use a travel agent.  The vacation package price on Expedia (flight+hotel) was so cheap, that I didn't see any reason to use a travel agent.  Plus our guests are coming from all different places.  But who knows, maybe I missed out on something by not having a travel agent.  I travel a lot for business and personal and I'm just used to booking my own.

The initial wedding coordinator Paloma would answer general questions and gave pictures of the different wedding sites.  But like the other girls said, they didn't confirm my date and location until I sent them my confirmed hotel reservation. Then again, my hotel reservation on expedia was fully refundable, so it would have been easy to change.  But then Paloma passes you to another coordinator specific to that site who gives you more details.

Our dinner and dessert (cake) will be free.  We are paying some more to have a cocktail party/dance/DJ after the dinner.

So I am to understand that you have to stay at the location where you have your actual wedding... as in if you want the Akumal beach location, you have to book at the Akumal?

In that case, does anyone have pictures of the locations that they could send me? We definitely want to get married on the beach so that will be a factor of how we decide.

My email is TuinBlecha@gmail.com

Thanks again for all your help ladies!

I actually found the travel agent at one of my cities wedding shows. They had a free Destination Wedding seminar and thats what pushed me to go with them. I was weary because I had heard through other brides that doing group bookings will entail your guests paying MORE than if they booked on their own online. Which is true to some degree - but the benefits are that if something were to happen that caused your wedding to be cancelled or postponed (aka Hurricane) - then everyone in the Group booking is protected whereas if they booked seperately they we're on their own.
Plus - Krama is right- its easier to have someone answering all the questions for you if your guests have concerns.
We used Romantic Planet - but I dont think they're in the US - but if I were you - try and find a travel agent that deals STRICTLY with destination weddings/honeymoons. They are bound to do a much better job than someone who just books regular vacations. These guys are specialists for a reason - so with you having a lot of people coming in all over the place - it would probably be beneficial to have someone do all the co-ordinating.

As a follow-up - Sunshine, did you find your travel agent through this website as well or did you already know of one that specialized in DW?

And just to clarify/answer your question, yes we are flying from the US as well. We live in North Carolina, and thus have a few friends here that will be coming. However, the majority of our immediate families will be coming from Colorado and then we will have some randoms flying from New England, Washington, and Cali! (This is one of the many reasons we decided to do a DW!!... if everyone is traveling anyway, why not travel to Mexico!) Again, thanks so much for your help!

Ya- i got the same response initially with my travel agent. But she was somehow able to work her magic and got us a fantastic deal! Not only did we get a great price for Tulum - but all of my guests only had to put down a $200 deposit by the deadline and it secured them the Diamond Club Upgrade FREE!!
We didnt anticipate booking so early - but it all worked out...Aaaaaaand the icing on the cake is that we got 31 people booked already!! Yaaaaaaaay!
I wouldnt panic too much though about booking for Nov 2012 - its a long ways away - and you want to get the best price.
You're actually the first bride I've encountered on here thats lookin at the same time of year. Everyone else is still booking for March - May 2012.
So ya- no worries right now

We are using a travel agent, and as long as they go through her our guests will receive a discount, she has the same pricing as applevactions.com then they receive more off with our wedding. Also what is nice about that is at the end we are getting money for everyone who books through her. So it works to the advantage for both sides. There is no set "group rate" but depending on how long they are staying they get some money off.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
