Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Amie,

I'm going to have my fiance (Pedro) call Jazmin tonight to try to figure this out.  Pedro is from Mexico City, so he has been writing all the emails in Spanish to Jazmin.  I thought that would eliminate misunderstandings, but maybe not. hahaha cheesy.gif

HI !

We just returned from our trip - it was amazing!! we used the resort DJ for 3 hours, it cost us 680 (or something like that) but well worth it. Lights, microphone, great music. No problem!!! I don't think you'll go wrong anywhere, it sounds like they all cost about the same!

I used the resort DJ as well for the same cost ($210 x 3 hrs) plus the lowest level bar so it worked out to be around the same price that Jazmin quoted you amiesmiles.

The DJ was fantastic and very accommodating of my guests numerous requests!

Hey!

Here's my input on just a few of the things:

1. I would say the Akumal is better than the Coba. I stayed at the Akumal and from what I understand the Coba is not located on the beach...which is a major disadvantage.

5. For the ruins, I went to Tulum only but instead of paying the excursion price of $100 or so dollars a bunch of us(about 12 people) just took a cab van and it cost $5 each way per person and then entrance is about $5 so a total of $15 per person. If you don't care about the tour and all the historic info I'd say this is the way to go.

6. We had our wedding on the beach and I would definetly reccommend this. Being in Mexico I think that the beach is the best way to go. Everyone thought it was really nice as well. I recommend the mariachis!

13. For the beach ceremony, chairs are included and they do all the setup quite nicely.

Hair/Makeup - Sara Tamargo replied to me yesterday.  She said that it's $150 for the bride's hair and makeup and $130 for bridesmaids or others for hair/makeup.  She didn't mention anything about a trial, so I guess that's no longer included.  It's still a pretty good price compared to Fernando ($350).

DJ - I'm planning on having dinner at Gran Tortuga and then a poolside cocktail reception.

I think I misunderstood Jazmin about the DJ cost.  I thought based on what other girls wrote in this forum that its

(35 people * $5 for first hour) + (35 people * $3 for second hour) = $280 for drinks/bartender setup

When Jazmin quoted me $955 for 35 people for 2 hours, including setup, service, tall cocktail tables, chairs, bar with margaritas, pina coladas, sparkling wine, and beer, sound equipment, microphone, speakers, DJ services, lighting.  I *thought* the resort DJ price was $655 (because the extra costs list says $210 for DJ 45 minute set).  So I thought I could just subtract the $655 and get an outside DJ.

I definitely need to followup with Jazmin on this, because I am confused.

Hi Christi

Did you get around to speaking to Jazmin? i emailed her after your post and your right you can just subtract the amount for dj and get an outside one but there are no lights and things included! so i think  we're gonna go with resort Dj we had our hearts set on DJ Bob so i've asked Jazmin if we can hire lights etc but still awaiting reply! x

Amie: Well my fiance called Jazmin, but I wasn't with him.  She said to send her an email of which things we want and she will tell us the package price.  It all sounded confusing to me.  We didn't write Jazmin the email yet because my fiance just left on a short business trip.  I plan to send her an email later this week.  We are sending all emails in Spanish, which is why I don't just write the email myself (sigh! if only my Spanish was better!). But that would be great if like you say, we can deduct the price of the DJ.

When Jazmin said there are no "lights and things included", was she referring to DJ type lights (LED lights)?  Or she was saying the place wouldnt be decorated with lights wrapped around the poles?

Here is a picture of LED lights that DJs sometimes have. This picture is from DJ Discomovil (he said he has 2 LED lights), shown in this picture:

Just FYI the reason why there are differences in prices for some of the DJs is based on the sound and light equipment that they bring.  When my fiance talked to Jazmin on the phone, she expressed concern because some of the DJs don't bring professional equipment (for example a stereo with 2 little speakers....like for a home sound system).  I was talking to DJ Julian from Mood Event services and his company buys new equipment from the U.S. every 6 months and they have 60,000 songs in their collection (this includes both English and Spanish).  Anyway, I'm leaning toward using Mood Event services, but I'm still asking different DJs all my questions.

Yikes, I already hired DJ Bijan. I sure hope he comes with lights...Did Jasmin say they dont allow the outside dj's to bring lights?

Im still unable to get a response from Eugenia, anybody else having this problem? I have emailed her 5 times over the last 3 months with no reply..=(

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
