Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Congrats on confirming your date!!!

I'm getting married on the Tulum side October 27th, 5 weeks from now!!!

I have worked really closely with Jazmin over the past year and have nothing but great things to say about her! Short of one time it took me a couple of days to hear from her I certainly can not complain about anything!! And really it was more me needing an answer right away that was making the wait that much more frustrating. They are really, really busy and not always at their computers able to give you back a fast reply. A few weeks back she actually called me while on her vacation because she wanted to make sure that she had the information right to pass on to who was covering for her at the time. So I wouldn't worry about things at all. From what I have read here and from those that I have spoken to abut their experiences there, everything will work out in the end and be the day that you want it to be.

I have been "lurking" on this thread for almost 2 months. After a WHOLE LOT of chaos, and at least a little bit of Bridezilla, I can finally be official. You ladies are great!

I am working my way through this thread (4 days and 282 pages). I had been skipping around, but have now committed to the entire thread. I am glad that I did, since I found A Lot of valuable info.

Unfortunately (I think), Jazmin is my WC, so I know I am in for some bumps with communication. Fortunately I know to copy Paloma for ALL emails, and that is thanks to the wonderful ladies on this thread.

I plan to finish the thread today or tomorrow, and then start firing away with the questions.  Can't wait to be an "active" member, instead of "lurker". Lol

P.S. I promise all of my posts won't be this long, but I've just been waiting so long to post as an official bride.smile123.gif

Just curious for those who used Arrecife Studio, which photographer did you have and how did you think they did? I have looked at the pictures on the facebook page and thinking I am liking Nestors pictures but would like some feedback from those of you who have actually used them.

Thanks! pinkie.gif

Hey! Nestor was our photographer (not sure if you can choose or not??) He was great, took tons of pictures - both posed and candids... wasn't sure what to expect but when he showed us all the pics he took (they bring you in nice and cool air-conditioned room to view them on a large screen TV) I was very happy... we even bought more than we were planning. I'm actually on their Facebook page quite a bit (I tagged myself - ha!).

Yes! Nov 18th at the Akumal beach location. I had emailed her asking more information on the poolside cocktail reception. Mostly if we could do 2 hours instead of 3 since that would cut down on the DJ costs. It's $190 an hour so this would make it really reasonable. We only have 20 people booked so far including us and a max of 23 people will be going so it's not really necessary to have the 3 hours, since I figure we can just go to the bar or the hacienda afterwards.

I am starting to go a little crazy because the last email I had from Eugenia was Sept 13th and I had sent her a ton of questions and then sent the legal marriage application yesterday and am still waiting for a reply. I really hate waiting for emails as there's no control over it!

Thanks for the info! I was curious becasue I had read that some people said the photographers were paparazzi style and sort of in your face so I wanted to see what other people thought! They had said that I can request someone but there's not a 100% guarantee it will be them the day of. We booked the basic package but I'm nervous we will want to buy a ton of them...knowing me and my compulsive spending! My fiances brother is a photographer too though so I'm sure he will get a lot of great pictures so it may not be necessary. we will get the 36 in the package plus the 10 that our included in our wedding package.

It took Eugenia a while to get back to me to me also.  But you take it with a grain opf salt because shge is also handling other brides requests too. We only have 28 guets coming down but we still wnated the poolside recep and DJ.  We booked DJ Bijian.  It seems like the closer it we get the more questions I have!

Are you doing the beach ceremony?  She never mentioned we could hire another DJ and just gave us a price of $180/hr for the resort DJ. How does it work for DJ Bijan? Do you have to put down a deposit and is it 100% safe to book him and guarantee he will be there.

Have you heard from Eugenia in the past couple of weeks at all? Your wedding is coming up pretty quick! Less than a month you must be getting so excited.

Hi ladies,

I havent been on here for a long time, but just went back and read all your posts...Congrats and welcome to all the new brides =)

We are getting married May 4th, 2011 at the hammocks (Akumal) but Im getting a little nervous cause I havent heard from Eugenia in 2 months....yikes I even emailed Paloma to try and touch base with somebody but still not response. Hopefully soon.   Did you guys have to sign anything to confirm your wedding date? or put down a deposit on the wedding cost?

Still trying to decide between the resort DJ and DJ Bijan?? cant wait to hear your reviews on him when you get backcheesy.gif

Have you actually booked your trip? They won't really start planning anything until you send a booking confirmation number. Also they say that you should start coordination 3 months before hand but I think I started roughly 4 months before just for basic info such as ceremony time. Have you picked our your wedding package yet?

We didnt have to sign anything to confirm the time just gave our booking number and no deposits are required. I think the only reason you would need a deposit is if you are booking something outside the resort or bringing in outside vendors. We are getting married at the Akumal Nov 18th beach location and are doing a poolside reception with the resort DJ...I just figured its easier to use them since no deposit is required and you can leave it up to them and not have to worry about any issues..and if there are any they can deal with them.

Hi everybody.

Newbie here as well... I've been reading this forum for a while. Itâ€s awesome to find so many informations and shared photos !

Sorry if I make many language errors but English is not my mother tongue.

I'm getting married at GBP Akumal in 2011. The main reason we chose the GBP is for budget reasons as well (we invite about 20 friends from Europe and pay them flight+hotel). Itâ€ll be the first time of a 5* resort for most of them.

Weâ€ve already been in this resort and really really loved it (size, beauty, number of restaurants, swimming-pools,…). However Iâ€m not completely convinced by the organization of the wedding ;-( Other hotels propose dinners on the beach, splendid decorations on tables,....  (https://images.thomascookgroup.ca/sunquest/images/PDF/SQ_Wedding_2010_11.pdf ). That does not seem the case here ? Not the same price range maybe…

I suppose that the answer of my question is no because I didnâ€t read any comment about this restaurant : is it impossible to have the wedding dinner at the Mikado ? I like the idea of the teppanyaki show ;o).

A few years ago, there was an oriental restaurant at the hacienda. Does anybody know if it still exists ? They had good Lobster Dinners.

I donâ€t know if, in my case, a reception by the pool is a good idea because I think my friends are not really interested in dancing ... but location is great to take a drink…. or a “theme night†but itâ€ll directly cost $2300 minimum (for only 20 guests). I have also heard that it's plastic dishes. Iâ€m not somebody with expensive tastes but I would like a decoration I love, which is me. Itâ€s actually a major element for me.  Has anyone ever done the “Lobster Dinner/ Special Luxury Menu´?

Am I right if I say that I have to choose a set meal for my 20 guests if I choose one of the 2 restaurants? Pfff.

Iâ€m really interested in pictures of the flowers and cake we could choose ! Can somebody help me ?

My email is afontaine@hotmail.com

Thanks for your help !!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
