Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

If you are at the Akumal your choices are the Dolce Vita and Frutos del Mar. We've eaten at both (our wedding dinner was at Dolce and was awesome). They look similar, but we weren't as impressed by the food at the seafood place. At Dolce we had the Salmon and Chicken paramasean. The salmon was fabulous, the chicken was ok. Feel free to ask anything, we're having a great time!

Thanks for the feed back. How was your wedding? Did they do an amazing job. The grounds look so great! Thanks for the tip, we are planning on having around 50 people do you know if the Dolce will allow a private reception? Also is there enough room to have the dancing portion in the restaurant would we need to rent the disco.

The Dolce is not big at all! So I would say there is not room for dancing.

I would not get the chicken parm... I didn't like it.

And it won't be private... however with 50 people it'd probably be very full.

It is right next to the 24 hour snack bar and is located right above the activity pool. The glassware is clear with green rims... umm... not sure what else i can tell ya

Yup, I did name cards. I just set them on a table though and people picked them up from there.

They did tell me how the tables would be set up, but that's only because I had the private reception. I'm not sure what they'd do for the restaurants. For my reception it was round tables of 10.

I did my own programs. I did the fan option because it was so hot out.

For our name cards, we did luggage tags, we printed regular paper with the design of our invitation as the background and then printed each person's name and inserted them in the luggage tags. We were given a choice of tables with 6, 8 or 10 people

I've been reading about this resort like crazy but I have a few questions I was hoping someone could help me with.

-If you drink all the bottled water in your mini-bar, is there a charge for additional ones? I know the GP charges (I think $3/bottle). How many bottles do you get in your mini-bar and how often is it restocked?

-What kind of beer do they have?

-How late are you able to get drinks served outside of the disco? From what I've read I think it's 11pm but that seems WAY too early.

-I thought the Tulum section only had rooms and junior suites but when I looked up pricing, other room categories pop up sometimes. I've found Room, Diamond Section Room, Junior Suite Diamond, Oceanview Room. Does anyone know the differences??

Thanks in advance!

Amanda, I'll answer what I can...there is no charge for extra water...it's AI. Why would an AI charge for water? Sillyness!

Not sure about the beer...I do know they have Corona and DosXX. Which is basically what most resorts have down there since they are domestic to Mexico. Some of the new brides can help you with that.

I do not know if the other bars stay open late. I thought one of the 24 hour restaurants had beer, not sure though.

Can't remember the rooms...I know that the ones you pay extra for are not worth it, or so I have read on Tripadvisor because they are so far away from everything.

Ha! I just realized I didn't help you at all...sorry. sad.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
