Has anyone else ate at Tortuga?? Maybe they just had an off night??

Once all our group arrives we are planning to have a welcome reception on our second night to greet our guests and give OOT gifts to the group. We were looking for a bar to have cocktails where we can talk to everyone. Karla suggested the Daquiri bar and apparently has live music each night.
Anyone have any comments about this bar or suggestions for us. Thanks
We went to this bar a few nights while we were there. We sat outside and had cocktails while the boys smoked cigars. The music was good and it wasn't packed so it was really nice. I think that would be a good choice for a group meeting.

So...I got all this awesome info on here about the poolside reception. I asked Jazmin about it and renting the speakers for $20 an hour like a couple of you have done. I did not know if honey would go for it but when I told him he thought it was a great idea for $8 every two hours and thought I should try to book it for longer...3 or 4:)

So today I got an email from Jazmin today - no price list like Swankster777 got (thank you for posting that!) telling me a cost for the two hour reception and that it is $18pp. That is the only option she gave me....then she told me I could not rent speakers because the resort does not allow this? I would have to hire the DJ. So I am wondering what is going on.

Otherwise our planning is going well. I do have one question....did anyone order a cake for about 40 people? How much did it come to...Jazmin told me $10 per base and then $2.50 per person...so that does not help me figure out what to tell her size wise to order? Two layers...three? Anyone who was there recently - can you help me out please? Thanks!

For those of you going with the Tortuga...that was actually my first choice, but it was booked. I have a bunch of family and friends who have all stayed here and they all really liked the food there. So you should be good:)

Well we just went through some major issues with our airline. After putting a group deposit down 6 months ago for our May wedding, we find out that they did not hold seats for us the plane is now full. No room for my guests. So we had to move our wedding back one week. The invites had already been sent so there’s $300 down the drain. Anyway my new wedding date is April 28, 2010. We are staying at the Coba but getter married at the Akumal beach location. I guess this just means I get to marry my love a week sooner!

Hmm. Given you paid a deposit, does that not make it their fault? Are the doing anything for you guys? Sorry...that would be frustrating.

You are right though, not a lot you can do about it and at least it is only moved by one week. You and your sweetie get to be married soonerwink.gif

Jazmin is giving me the same BS and saying it isn't possible to rent speakers and I currently have my TA contacting her and giving her a blast!!!!! I am so fustrated with the no communication and the lies.... I mean I know they are running a business and they are trying hard to sell things to make money... However I don't want a DJ I shouldn't be forced to hire one. I am trying so hard not to have negitive feelings about the whole thing but it is very hard not to... Keep me posted ladies as to how you make out.

This is just my opinion but I think 2 hours would be plenty. Trust me you will be tired. :-) We had ours from 8 to 10 and it was perfect, not too long, not too short. Depending on your schedule for you wedding day and the amount of people going, 2 hours might be sufficient for you too. Just a thought.

This is lame. I can't see them only offering this in the Coba section. I would contact Paloma if possible to find out for sure. Sounds like hewy to me.

I didn't pay any extra for my cake. There were 18 of us and we got a 3 tier cake. Now that I think about the only thing we spoke about regarding cake was the flavour. I'm not sure if it was in leu of the flowers we didn't use or what.

Good luck with the rest of your planning and don't let the WC's pull the wool over your eyes.

Oh Erica that's crappy. I was warned about that happening from my TA (who is also my friend and wedding guest) too which is why we too moved our date from May. I see you're also in Alberta. Was it Signature? We've had such a headache using them so far! We're also staying at the Coba and the ceremony is at the Akumal beach location but we're 2 days earlier!

Our TA warned us about this too. She discouraged us from booking with Signature or Sunwing because of this problem. Instead, she got quotes from both and asked Air Canada Vacations to price match, which they did!

PS: I'm another Alberta bride staying at Coba but we're getting married at the Tulum beach location (I hope that means gazebo!)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
