Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I've just booked my wedding at the Tulum section and I'm SO excited!

Jazmin is asking me to choose between the Gran Tortuga & The Tequila and I wanted to get your thoughts on this choice....

Our preference would be to be outside so if either have an outdoor section we would choose it. Does anyone know if they do?

After that, our priority would be a fun and laid back atmosphere but we also want it to be nice. I've heard that the Gran Tortuga is more appropriate for a wedding but we aren't traditional and aren't keen on being in a formal restaurant where we need to be quiet. I think the Gran Tortuga looks beautiful though. Oh, I'm so confused...

Any comments on either would be very much appreciated!

Also, I asked about an outdoor reception and she said it was $50 PP but I thought some of the options were $20.

Finally, has anyone talked them into letting you eating at an Akumal restaurant or are they strict about using Tulum ones only?

Thanks again!

Jennie

Congrats Jennie! What day in February are you getting married?

We chose Gran Tortuga because of it looked super nice, was close to the ocean and the menu was the most appealing. Meh, too formal be damned, it's about how much fun you want to have! :)

They were pretty firm about sticking to your own resort for the wedding dinner, but i think during your general stay you can move around.

I'm trying to clarify the per person cost too of the poolside reception with Jazmine. Let me know what you find out!

Thank you Joss!

We're hoping for Feb 9th but have the 10th booked right now. Just waiting on confirmation for the 9th.

Yeah, you're right setting the 'mood' ourselves!! :) Do you know if there's outdoor seating at the Gran Tortuga? Did you pick your menu yet?

She told me that it was $9 for 2 hrs and that included margaritas, pina coladas, sparkling wine & beer. And then she said $50 pp for a buffet...

Jazmine's been great so far though! Pretty quick to respond.

Hey Ladies,I have been so busy since getting back from the wedding that I have neglected this site but I have returned...*guilty* I just wanted to say that our wedding was more than we thought possible, amazing. We got married at the Akumal side, used Claudia for photography, DJ Bob for reception, Alexandro Zavala for hair & Make up. I will post some pics and a full review later on but if you have any questions please ask!

I can't wait to hear about the details about your wedding. I'm also getting married at Akumal using claudia and dj bob. I can't wait to see your pictures. What package did you use with Claudia. Did you choose a restaurant, or eat at the pool side reception?

Hi girls,

I know I'm probably panicking, but everytime I see someone post on here with new info from the resort, or having to pick something for the resort like which restaurant to use, or how nice it looks I freak. I haven't talked to anyone since initally confiming the date with Paloma. How is it that some of you who are getting married in Jan/Feb 2010 are able to make these decisions already/talk with your coordinator. Did you contact them or did they contact you? I was told by Paloma to contact Karla 3 months prior to the wedding, which would be Jan since we are getting married April. Should I be writing to her already and starting to confirm/book things?

Please help calm my nerves if you have any input on this!!! Thanks :)

I'm totally looking forward to your wedding review and photos. I'm using Claudia but am getting married on the Tulum side, +/- d.j. Did you have to travel to Cancun or did he come to the resort?

I would definitely write to say "hello" and ask what you can decide on at this point (for example, if you have a restaurant you're leaning towards or outdoor reception). The specifics they'll want to know closer to the wedding (flowers, music, number of guests). At least this is how Jamin is working things on the Tulum side.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
