Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Same with us re the guests (or guestimates - love it!!). We had a surprise (a friend brought a friend) guest and Jazmin didn't even raise an eyebrow when I told her that we had to add one more. It really seems like you confirm everything with her at the meeting you have a few days before the wedding.

I, too, think it was totally worth it to pay extra for the private bar (think you're paying for the "private" not the "bar"). It was absolutely no problem for guests to bring in whatever other drink they wanted - but we found that although there was talk of people wanting wine, in the end they went with what was there... They were just really sticky about food at the buffets, as in, you couldn't take it out. We got married on my Mom's birthday so we wanted to get her a cake and sing Happy Birthday - Jazmin convinced us we shouldn't pay extra for a whole cake since we had one already included in the wedding package, so my sister and I "stole" a piece from the buffet. We tried to walk quickly out of there but the hostess nabbed us. We told her we were told to go and get a piece of cake and she let us go. We had no problem bringing it into the reception though...

We are back and happily married! I posted a review under the review section, I have to warn it is not the best review of the resort. We found the resort to be beautiful great for kids but the attitudes of the employees stomped the beauty of the place and in the end we decided to leave a week early and go to a different resort. All our guests did have an amazing time outside of arguing with the staff.

Our wedding got bumped to 2:00 I would not recommend this time as our wedding day was so sunny (yeah!) but it was difficult to take pictures everyone was squinting and I had laser eye surgery and not wearing sun glasses my eyes really burnt and watered. Also our guests did not know really what to do our mariachi band was due to start at 4:40 at the cocktail hour so it did not give them enough time to change and hang on the beach and then get dressed again and make it to the cocktail hour so they went to the lobby bar from 2:30 to 5:30. Also it was really hot for our elderly guests. Around 5 we took the band to the beach and did a group shot and Kyle and I took our pictures.

5:30 we went to dinner it was great we were the only people in there we decided to do cake right after dinner. I would suggest this, I originally wanted it outside but it worked out better to do it then so our guests could dance the night away.

Poolside reception was from 7:30 to 10:30 and it was a blast we did only do the beer, pina coladas and margaritas last minute because that is what our guests were drinking all week. The only thing they wanted more was top shelf tequila so my brother and mother inlaw went to the lobby bar and brought back cups of it so everyone can do a shot after the bm toast.

I would really recommend DJ Bob he did an amazing job our guests just had a blast. Our photographers Evan Baines Photography was exceptional and we hired Mike from Cancun Wedding Video and we are anxiously waiting for our video.

welcome back jen and congrats!

your wedding was beautiful and i'm glad you got the beach. it's unfortunate that you had to fight to get what you want. and rude staff will always tarnish your stay. at least everything else went well. i loved your dress. so nice of evan to throw up a slideshow so quickly for you

good to hear there's no complaints from joanna on the tulum side. and that jazmin was helpful, i find her responses to me pretty timely. but we'll see once i get closer and start emailing daily. lol

Jen I am so sorry! This stinks, but I hope you still enjoyed your wedding, you look stunning!!! Jazmin just really seemed on the ball with things, and I told her all of my concerns. She said she tries to see things from our P.O.V. and that she says, "okay, if this were my wedding, what would I want". I am sorry that Yuritza was so flakey and rude. That is not right, because this is a big day in your life. The staff around the resort were very helpful and friendly, and the waiters would go above and beyond to make us happy. (We had a huge drink container carved out of a pineapple and friends that we met wanted one too, so the bartender in the dining room went and got all different fruit and made them one out of a melon!) The worst experience that I had is that a little lizard in the hacienda fell on my neck, and I FREAKED out, thinking it was a flying roach or something. There are a lot of kids, but we met many adults as well from Canada, and the U.S., and we would usually wind up hanging out at meals and grabbing drinks. The beach at Tulum is a little rocky, but we wore water shoes and were fine. It is WAY less croweded than the Akumal beach, but Akumal had more calm spots to swim. All in all, we were sad to leave!!!

Hey Joanna! Welcome back. I'm really glad to hear that Jazmin seems way better than the horrible WC Jen had.

We're going to do our own site visit in April. Did Jazmin give you any helpful info on how their packages/flowers/wedding sites/reception sites/etc that we didn't already know from the wonderful brides who've gone before?

We basically discussed many details... the flowers, the reception... the prices, what food is included in the mixed grill for our private reception... we saw weddings while we were there, and a private reception as well and we were impressed...I will go through my notebook and write anything I have within the next day or so... Seeing the relaxed vibe helped to calm my fears... we are just being a little crazy because we have about 70 people going, so it's more organizational issues!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
