Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

OMG, I didn't even think about having an MC... I guess we would do it our selves if we had to... I am quite animated lol... maybe I can be the bride AND direct people to do electric slide!

I believe you have to be in Mexico four days previous to the wedding and have the blood test. We are going to legally get married at home as well because we want my finace's younger sister to be present and she can not come to Mexico... his mother might not be able to make it either, but we are being positive and hoping she will!

Hello everyone

I would like to do a welcome newsletter to be sent out before the wedding to get the guests excited and give them more info.

I noticed on some of the various newsletters that have been posted on the forum that people have included what excursions are available and the schedule of activities for the resort.

Does anyone know where I can find this info? Should I just email the resort?

Thanks for the advice!

I'm pretty sure you have to use the DJ - I don't think you can just rent the equipment (but I would ask, just to make sure).

Xcaret - "Xcaret Eco Theme Park is full of Mexico; Mayan Culture, Flora and Fauna, Archaeological Tours, Water Attractions and has a great Swim With Dolphin Tour." We had a great time there (it's a full day activity) and we would definitely go back again.

Akumal Bay - short collectivo ride from GBP - rent snorkel equipment from the local dive shop and see all the turtles in the bay. We ate lunch at Lucy's Taco's - very delicious (turn left before the gates to Akumal to get to Lucy's).

Tulum Ruins - We rented a guide when we went, the guide was great, but didn't 'guide' us as much as we would've liked. I think we paid something like $40 or $60. Definitely make time to swim at the beach there, it's beautiful!

We also went to Xel Ha - "Xel-Ha is nature as no one has ever felt it before, a place to share in celebrating the biological parade of the Riviera Maya. Our Natural Wonder and its open-sea aquarium offer a myriad of land and water activities, ecological attractions, world-class restaurants, and countless more unimaginable experiences." It was way more expensive than Xcaret and in our opinions not quite as good. We had fun, but we wouldn't go there a 2nd time.

Others in our group visited the Coba Ruins, and went on the Hidden Worlds Zipline & Cenote Excursion and the Quad Excursion (sorry, I don't know who they went through, but they booked with the resort).

And there's always shopping in Playa Del Carmen (whole day) or Tulum (half day).

My DH and I also went parasailing with the resort - it was awesome!!!

Hope that helps!

ETA: OOOPS!!! I got Xcaret and Xel Ha mixed up in my head. Xel Ha is WAAAAYYYYY better and cheaper... it's the one to visit... Sorry! Here's the revised version:

Xel Ha - "Xel-Ha is nature as no one has ever felt it before, a place to share in celebrating the biological parade of the Riviera Maya. Our Natural Wonder and its open-sea aquarium offer a myriad of land and water activities, ecological attractions, world-class restaurants, and countless more unimaginable experiences." We had a great time there (it's a full day activity) and we would definitely go back again.

Xcaret - "Xcaret Eco Theme Park is full of Mexico; Mayan Culture, Flora and Fauna, Archaeological Tours, Water Attractions and has a great Swim With Dolphin Tour." It was way more expensive than Xel Ha and in our opinions not quite as good. We had fun, but we wouldn't go there a 2nd time.

My mom stayed at GBP Akamal and said it was the best resory shes ever been at! ( they do a resort/AI trip once a year). Her pictures were fantastic and she said the place was huge! She loved it and they like to try a new place every year but this one was so good shes going again. She said she saw weddings and they were gorgeous set ups!!

I know, I have been bad. We have been in Houston since Saturday morning...we got some bad news about my new BIL Friday night. He is in ICU and wasn't doing too well. He is doing better now and I think I may get a chance to post review and pics tonight or tomorrow. I will try my hardest. sad.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
