Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the tip about emailing Poloma, Yuritzia was back to me quickly after that, lol.

Does anyone have any tips on what villas to request? I tried looking at the map but until you've been there it doesn't really have any relevance.

Just an FYI, I requested villas last week... AND IT WAS SENT TO YURITIZIA! I am SO mad! She doesn't respond to ANYTHING so now I HIGHLY doubt we'll get any of the room or dinner reservations we requested. What a joke!

So whatever you do DO NOT say you are there for a wedding or they will send it to her!

Guys, please don't worry about the room requests too much. We tried and we were told by numerous people (our TA, the resort, other people that have stayed) that you can request, but it really doesn't mean anything until you get there. My TA gave me this tip:

When you get off the bus (if you're travelling through a tour operator), try to be the first ones to check in (leave FH to collect the bags) and make your request there - that way you'll have the option of different rooms before the rest of the bus does.

But really, I don't think there's any really bad rooms (unless you're staying at the Coba - there are some that are very very close to the highway).

Your wedding is soooo close - I can't wait! Haha

Okay..questions:

Where did you keep your valuables while you were there? I don't think I have read anything on tripadvisor about people stealing from the rooms, but I am still scared.

Also, because I am pregnant, I will be limited on what I can drink...was there ample supply of bottled water? And, even though it's bottled, is it still safe? The times I have been there I think I stayed drunk...ha!

One more thing: I thought GBP only scheduled one wedding a day?

oohh you are pregnant! Congratulations, that is very exciting :)

I think they initially tell you that there is only one wedding per day. Since you are the first wedding, you'll get first pick of what time you want to get married at and what restaurant you want to eat at. (I know this b/c we are the second wedding on our day).

I have never been to this particular resort before, but at the one I went to last spring the bottled water was fine, and so was the water they serve you in the restaurants (they have purifiers). My travel agents said that all of the resorts have purifiers.

We kept our valuables in the safe. There is one in each room. You have to ask for a key at check in and it costs $5/day. (But I do know that with some tour operators the safe is included - it wasn't with signature vacations). We never had any problems at all - and we even forgot a few things out some days (money, camera, etc.)

All of the water is filtered at the resort (except in the bathrooms - facets, showers, etc). You can get water from the bars (it's not bottled, but it's filtered) and restaurants. You also get 2 huge and 4 small bottles of water in your room. They replenish these everyday or every 2nd day (don't forget to tip the fridge guy!).

Hi there, just about to burn a CD but I'm not sure how many songs I need. Is one enough for people to sit? We have a small group. How many songs am I going to need? I was thinking 3 - 1 for guests and groom, 1 for me to walk, and 1 for us together... am I forgetting anything?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
