ps I appreciate all your responses people like you really make websites like this work. :)

hey Holly (and others!) I'm still a newb navigating in here and trying to see what popular resorts resonate with people, esp. those with a larger guest list (like we expect!). Holly, was your poolside reception an additional cost? Did you go with the unforgettable package?

I've just emailed the resort with q's about additional costs over the package's 30 people for dinner/alcohol, and also inquired about whether a semi private area (e.g poolside which I ADORE!!) has an additional cost.

this place seems like it could be very cost effective for our guest budget of 1500 and wedding budget of less than 15,000.

If any of you have a larger wedding party and made a wonderful poolside reception work, I'd love to hear all about it!

It is definitely extra for the poolside reception.

I paid $46 per person.  That included a bar and food by the pool.  The DJ was $150 an hour at the time, but I think that price has gone up significantly.

I paid $35,000 for my wedding, but I upgraded a lot of stuff and paid for the airfare and outfits and gifts for all of our 8 attendants...  So you could definitely do it for 15.

Thank you for your response! Is there another area around the bahia resorts that has an "outdoors" feel to it but perhaps less of an extra cost? eg. gazebo area, etc.?

So with the poolside, you paid per person period, no amount of people were included in a package at all?

My poolside reception will be an additional cost.  I am having karaoke so with that and drinks, tables, ect it will be $1575 for the 3 hour poolside reception for 55ppl.  I did not go with the unforgettable package I have gone with Symbolic Rember package which is $1275.

I may also get some additional flowers so in total the wedding and reception will cost me around $3,000.

Gran Bahia Principe has been very cost effective for us as we have 55 people attending and all inclusive packages out of Edmonton, Regina, Vancouver, Calgary and Kelowna with westjet were under $1300pp for 7 day and under $1500 pp for 10 day.  My FI and myself go for free.

My total wedding budget is $12,000 and that includes dress, wedding bands, flowers, gifts for bridesmaids/groomsmen, suits, ect.  I think we will end up being a little bit under budget depending if my FI buys a Boss suit or not.

I hope that helps I know I had similar questions to you when I first started planning.  Good luck! :)

Yeah, the big difference is that we ate dinner by the pool.  That's why it's per person regardless.  I think a lot of people just have their dancing reception by the pool.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
