Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

I have a few more questions about the poolside reception;

Do most people take their centrepieces from dinner outside to the poolside?

Is there a server and a bartender or just a bar/ bartender?

I have read on here before that sometimes if you go with the 'basic' bar,(beer, wine, pina coladas)  they will upgrade you to the better one (if you tip).  My fiance's family is from Trinidad, and  like their RUM!  I don't want to pay extra for the hard alcohol if we can get it with just a few tips....does it depend on the bartender?  Any advice would be appreciated!

Does anyone know if they make sangria? Would that be included in the 'basic' bar?

THANKS!

Hi,

If you don't mind me asking is the poolside reception a lot? My fiance is keen on arranging something like that but the whole purpose for us to do our wedding away was to save money. We are only a group of 20 and I thought we could probably just find one of the bars/nightclubs we liked to go to afterwards and have drink on our all inclusive. We will actually probably see you as we get married on the 9th. We leave on the 16th but obviously you'll be there before. lol x

A space filled with the natural beauty of the Caribbean Sea and the magic of a thousand-year-old civilization. The perfect place to know the best of México its history and traditions, where you and your family will enjoy the best experiences.

A day trip to Play del Carmen is fun

Coco Bongos - there is one in Playa Del Carman and it is just as good as Cancun with the bonus of being closer to the hotel :)

The guys may want to go to Cancun and drive the speedboats James Bond style through the mangroves, its 2 people to each boat with a guide then you go snorkelling on the reef.  Its a brilliant trip and we all laughed so much.

Drive your own speed boat for 45 minutes through the mangrove channel  to the world's 2nd largest reef. Watch for wildlife along the way, birds, and of course do a bit of sightseeing while experiencing the freedom of your speedboat.

At the reef, enjoy the wonder of snorkeling with beautiful tropical fish for about 45 minutes. Then hop back in your speedboat for a zippy ride back through the mangroves to the marina.   http://www.cancun-discounts.com/cancun-jungle-tour.htm

Enjoy your planning.

Getting married in 59 days at Akumal beach location, staying at Coba. March 20, 2013 is the day. We have been to this resort for a vacation and were so happy with it, so it was a no-brainer to get married here. We have 30 guests, including my finance's 9 and 10 year old children.

I agree with all the brides about being frustrated with WCs not replying and playing the waiting game. Finally my wedding is less than two months away and I'm getting responses in a reasonable amount of time. So yes, I totally agree you need answers from the resort to help you with other planning, but rest assured they will have more contact with you closer to the date.

A few questions for brides out there:

If anyone has been there recently, what theme is the night entertainment each night? Specifically I'd like to know Wednesday.

Anyone have any opinions on the Portofino restaurant for the dinner?

I am thinking of bringing material down to decorate the ceremony site at Akumal, any past brides do you have an estimate of how wide the wedding archway thing is at the beach location?

How flexible was the WC with the time of the ceremony? I've already emailed requesting an earlier ceremony (we are at 4:00 right now). Maria said she'd try to get an earlier timer but cannot promise. My issue is that I'd really like to do photos after the ceremony but my photographer is worried about losing light too soon. Our dinner is at 6, and maybe the timing is too tight to do photos in between a ceremony at 4 and a dinner at 6.

Thanks for all the helpful tips. Nice knowing other people are stressing about the same details I am!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding, bet you are gettting sooooooooooooooo excited.    The WC are pretty strict with the times but this is purley because they have so many weddings going on.  I have requested 4pm for our wedding at Tulum Gazebo but am waiting on this being confirmed as the couple who are  booked for 2pm want to change to 4pm not sure why the WC said NO as it is the time I have :(

However the reason the WC gave me for this possible change  is that the couple are stayign at Tulum so they get first shout - we are staying at Akumal

I was stressing not gettign replies to email so phoned and spoke to WC - was much easier and calmed me down.

Hope all goes well with the last minute plans and of course your wedding day

AndreaandAaron/TIseege: thanks for your help with the fabric. I would have had NO clue how much to bring. Lol.

I've heard you can contact Felix to set up a la cartes... When we went two years ago, I emailed the resort and tried to make reservations but of course when we got there, they had no record of it. But... seeing as it is our wedding and we are bringing down a lot of people with us ($ for the resort), you'd think maybe we'd have a special in with booking additional a la cartes. Anyone had any luck with this or am I getting my hopes up? :)

We have stayed at the Bahia in Mexico several times aswell as the hotel chain all over the world and we have always emailed in advance our a la carte reservations and they have been made without any hiccups.  Dont see why you would have any problems - fingers crossed it is done for you  x

Hi,

If you want a private poolside reception including dinner, it's $60/pp for a minimum of 50 people - so you're looking at $3,000 but this is with setup and a buffet style. Not sure what they're charging for just the reception :)

Good luck!

Hi Miriam I feel your pain.  we are in Scotland and both are divorced, due to get married on 20 June this year.  I have had a nightmare about this I have continually asked Eugina about this as First Choice told us we DID need to get all our documents translated and legalised however when Engina has replied she has sent me different details about this so I am still no futher forward.    Not helped at all by the fact that she has come back and side we cannot get married at Tulum Gazebo as someone else is booked at the same time, she has to talk with Paloma as she is her boss and then will get back to me   :hissyfit:   This all happened between Christmas and New Year and despite emailing her and Paloma I havent got a clue what is happening as not heard from them.  I was due to put the order in for my personalised items but cant do it til I know whats happending.   We have family and friends arriving from Scotland the week after us so they can then have a weeks holiday on their own so we only have a few days leeway. It was all going so well until now  . . .. If you get a reply with details please can you share on here  thanks x

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
