Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Ooooh thanks for the info. i like the sound of joining the guests for the cocktail hour to enjoy the band with them. Is this the band that is included in the unforgettable love package?

I think we are going to end up getting married Tulum side as I do not think the Akumal hammocks are available on the 2 dates we have requested (still waiting for Jazmin to confirm) but I like the photos that are done down by the wall and rocks at akumal so does anyone know if the resort photographer would take us down there? even if we got married and had dinner at tulum.

If you decide to bring a photographer with you, I'd highly suggest an earlier wedding time (2 or 3) so that your photographer has plenty of time to take photos all over the resort.  This also will allow your guests a nice break where you can have a cocktail hour with the band.

OR, you could do a 3pm wedding and you and your husband could join them all for the cocktail hour.

So it'd be 3pm wedding, 3:30 done.  4:30 you'd be done with photos (if not before then).  4:30-5:30 cocktail hour in the lobby with the mariachi band.  5:30 shuttle arrives to pick you and your guests up for dinner.

We used the resort photographer and didn't have much time after the ceremony for pictures, he did them at the gazebo and the beach right behind.  Luckily we had 3 people with us that are hobby photographers that are amazing and did more for us!!!  It would be worth asking if that's where you really want your pictures.  We also had the unforgettable package and opted for the band to play at our dinner since we had 2 hours!!  All of my guests really enjoyed while they were being seated and ordering dinner there was music!!!!  As for our cocktail hour we just had tables in the lobby bar set aside for us, cause some of my guests went to change before dinner since it was raining!!!  Also we just paid for the minimum bar and we ended up getting a fully stocked bar which was nice!!!!

Katie,

Thanks for your post, it was sad and happy at the same time. My uncle was battling stage 4 metastatic renal cancer which got to the brain while I was planning my wedding. He was diagnosed with it in Jan 2011... He fought so hard, I was married Nov 2, 2011 and he died Nov 29, 2011. It was so fast. I'm glad your fiance seems to be beating it, and I pray he does!! Good luck with everything :) I lost my Uncle so fast and will never take another life for granted.

This will be a different type of post...

My FI has been battling cancer since April of 2012.  He has had chemo, one minor and two major surgeries.  We were under the impression he was in the clear.  We picked our resort, ordered STDs, made our wedding website and picked our bridal party. My FI began experiencing headaches that were abnormal.  I emailed his oncologist and an MRI was ordered. On Valentine's Day, we were called and told that he had a 4cm brain tumor and to go to the hospital immediately.  We have been so positive, but when you hear brain surgery, I thought the worst.  He still made an effort to make me smile and happy on Valentine's Day even though we were in the hospital.  The surgery was this morning.  He looks great.  They got the tumor.  He has no side effects that we were warned of.  It is amazing.  The neurology team is amazing and sensitive and patient.  We are waiting for the pathology to confirm that the tumor is cancer, and he has to start radiation if so.

I am sharing this because I searched BDW site for a group for the people that are planning their wedding in the midst of illness.  There didn't seem to be any.  Not to preach, but cherish your health, and the health of your partner.  I felt like the luckiest woman on earth today when I saw him in recovery.  I share my story, because I know people will wish him the best.  And we need that!

On a lighter note, I am pumped to go back to planning.  I came back from the hospital today to find my STDs delivered.  It looks like I will have something to keep me busy while I keep him company in the hospital--carefully print the addresses of my favourite people on the planet to invite to my DW in Mexico.

Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that this is nearly the end of our journey with cancer.

I hope this was inspiring rather than depressing.

Katie

Hey Ladies

So Jazmin emailed me the itinerary for the wedding.  She said at 1:45 they would have pick up in the lobby for group and groom and take them to the wedding site (Gazebo).  I figured past brides might be able to answer this quicker than Jazmin...what do they mean by group, would it be all of our guests and groom or just groom and his groomsmen?

Also then in the evening they pick everyone up form the lobby and bring to the restaurant?

We leave in 6 days!

They pick up all if your guests at the Main lobby! And they pick up you at your room! And yes they pick up everyone at the lobby about ten minutes before your dinner to take them to the lobby.. They actually make sure the day flows very nicely and have all transportation arranged!

Yeah, it works pretty slick how they transport everyone.  When I got married they didn't do that and people just randomly wandered on their own to the wedding site.  I think it's so much cooler to arrive as a group.  The energy is up and everyone is excited.

Thanks for the info.

Do you get to choose the style of band for the 2 hours or is there only a mariachi available. I do actually think I would like to go with a bit of Mexican feel but just wondered what the options were. Are there any rocky areas on Tulum beach?

When you say you paid for the bar. Do you mean at the Lobby? Surely it is all inclusive?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
