Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info Jemma!

That's what we noticed as well, I emailed our WC this afternoon letting her know of our choice. She had also provided us with a thematic dinner option, which was a private buffet dinner. I'm not too sure where they hold it though. We decided to go with dinner at Alrequin and a poolside reception.

January 17 is soo close! Congratulations! You must be getting excited! Where are you having your ceremony?

I am full of questions today!

For any of the ladies staying at Akumal. Are any of your guests booking outside of the travel agent having a hard time finding packages for Akumal?

We have been able to find quite a few of packages for Tulum and Coba in May but none of Akumal. I emailed Jazmin today explaining what we have been able to find and asking what their policy was for wedding guests and whether or not they would allow them to dine with us.

I feel like iâ€ve been having an opposite experience with the resort and travel agency. Jazmin has been quite good about responding to our inquiries where as I canâ€t get any definitive answer from our travel agent. Not even an itinerary yet.Weâ€d switch travel agencies if our all our deposits werenâ€t non refundable lol. I think so far our travel agent has been the most stressful and hardest part of planning our wedding so far.

I hope everyone else is having a more pleasant experiencing with their travel agents! :)

I've used Flight Center before for personal travel, and after a horrid experience I vowed never to use them again! Are you able to contact your Airline directly to see if they can help out with the issues?

We are going through Travel With Us. They're located in the basement of TELUS tower.

They came highly recommended to us through my mom as she used to work there. It's just frustrating, we've complained about the level of service we've received from our TA who is also the office manager and have been told "that's just how she is" by the owner. How is being inefficient and rude just the way she is?? LOL.

What kind of problems are you experiencing with Flight Centre? When we went to the bridal shows in the fall, there were quite a few travel agents who specialized in DW, it made me wish we shopped around a little more. That's definitely my advice to other brides planning on going away for their wedding.... But what's done is done, and I know regardless of this whole TA thing our day will be AMAZING!

That is so exciting, you're leaving so soon!  I can't wait to hear abour your experience at the resort!

Be sure to keep us updated! :)

Morning!  I have a PDF of my welcome brochure which I can share as well.  Hopefully everyone has 150 posts so they can download it.

The big thing was telling my guests about what to expect at the airport.  A lot of them had never been to Cancun and things are done WAY differently than they are here in the states.

(We have 90 ish people going)... I thought about including the following information.  I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions that I can add.

-bring lots of sunscreen (as it's expensive at the resorts)

-bring mosquito repellant

-febreeze (as I've heard the rooms are musty)

-bring walkie talkies (has anyone done this?  Does it work?)

-pack bathing suit and essentials in carry on just in case airline loses luggage... :(

-bring a mug to keep drinks cold

-the safe is $5 a day

-bring water shoes and snorkeling stuff if you want

I'd also like to add a map... does anyone have one?  And, some information about the trolleys and then the wedding day itself.  Can you think of any other tips?

Thanks,

Sarah

I have tried to contact Air Canada Vacations myself after our TA told me to and Air Canada told me since i was using a TA they were not allowed to give me any details about our booking!!!! It has been the worst experience and so much added stress.....at first she was amazing then as soon as we booked it just seemed like anything I asked her for was making her do work and she was rude and took forever to get back to me and my guests, if she even did get back to us.  We had people cancel and lose their deposit to rebook with someone else because of the rudeness and lack of response.   We also have our honeymoon booked right after at another resort and she promised me she would take care of everything, so I contacted the resort and they told me she didn't tell them it was our honeymoon so we weren't set up to get the benefits of the honeymoon package!!!  We have contacted the head office and they seem just as bad so it will be interesting to see where it goes when we get home.  In the end I will NEVER use them again or say anything good about them!!!!!

Hello All!

I am very newly engaged and we have decided to have our wedding at the Tulum resort for May 2012 but I don't know where to go from here!!!!

How did you book your wedding packages? Recommendations?  I can tell from the past posts not to book through Travel with Us or Flight Centre. But do I book through a travel agent and then the WC contacts us? So confused.

I also have some concerns because I want to book our date and then let people know the date so they can book, but the packages on the Gran Bahia website have a minimum amount of people and so I don't know how to pick which package because I have no idea how many people.

Also how soon are people sending out their invitations? We are planning to also have a mini reception back home, so I have no idea to word it so that they can choose to go to either Mexico or the reception here or both. Any hints?

I appreciate any information or tips anyone has!!!!!

Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
