Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Just quickly... because I knwo everyone wants to know about photos... We received 101 edited photos, plus all 609 photos taken during the day on disk for $1200.... I dunno if that's a good deal, but it seems so to me.. and the quality of the edited ones is amazing.

For people trying to decide between mexican and Brazilian at Tulum... I highly suggest Braziian. ALL my guests LOVED it, there wasn't a single complaint from anyone!

Congrats lyzzie and megz, looking forward to seeing reviews and photos!

Has anyone done a trash the dress with Arrecife?  I really want to do one, but every time I try my dress on again I get scared it might get messed up.

Also I am still deciding on the spa.  Would you recommend getting a trial done before the wedding day, or just showing up and going with it.  I am going to my hair dresser soon and going to ask her for some tips on products so I can do it myself but still undecided on that, I might be more relaxed if someone does it for me.  Also I want a mani pedi for the wedding, the wedding is at 2, do you think I will be pushing it to have a mani/pedi on the wedding day, or will i have enough time?

Megz thanks for the info about the photos - that seems to be what you would pay here. Can't wait to read your review and see your pictures!!

Does anyone have any suggestions for make-up to use that lasts thru the elements?

Also - trying to pick my cake and the photos they sent seemed.....ummm....a little outdated. Did anyone just send a photo of what they wanted and if so, how did it turn out?

So we are back and everything was amazing. I ate at 5 restuarants while we were there and the Mexican one was the only one we didn't like. The spa did a great job on our hair. The photographer was great. We got married at Akumal, Frutos Del Mar (dinner) and pool side reception (great idea)!!

Ask me anything!!

Lyzzie, i love your hair!  It turned out beautifully!!  And congratulations!!

Megz, I cannot wait to see your photos and hear all about your big day!

Ariel, for makeup, do not use mineral makeup.  It reflects bad in photographs.  I would recommend MAC and then using the finishing spray on top.  It helps set the makeup and makes it last all day.

And I definitely sent photos of what I wanted my flowers and cake to look like.  The flowers turned out beautifully.  The cake... well... not as beautiful, but it tasted delicious!  And I didn't pay extra for the cake so honestly, I didn't really care!  You can see pictures of them all and find out about other brides on the official thread for the GBP

Also, I'm traveling to the GBP in 21 short days!!!  Does anyone have any requests? I plan on doing a walking tour similar to the one I posted from Dreams Cabo.  And of course I'll have the wedding photographs that I'll be taking, but does anyone have specific requests?

I had my hair and makeup and manicure done at the Spa, and my wedding was at 2pm... definitely had more than enough time!

I didn't have a trial, and really didn't need one. The hairdresser was amazing, and did it exactly as I wanted it.

I went to my hairdresser at home before going down to have her do it, so I could see what I wanted and take pictures to bring down. Complete waste of my money.. not only did I not do my hair anything like how my hairdresser had done it, but the hairstylist down there did it a million times better than my "at home trial"...

Thanks!  I think I will try and get appointments for mani/pedi for the wedding day then, and my hair once I decide if I want them or just do it myself.  It sounds like a fun way to spend the time before the wedding, I think if I don't have something to do I will drive myself crazy worrying about details that won't matter in the end!

I hope to see some pics soon!

Can someone who been there please tell me about the beach on the Tulum side?  Is really as rocky as people complain about on TripAdvisor?  In every way the Gran Bahia fits for my wedding, but I still look at pictures on TripAdvisor and with people complaining about the beach, I think it looks a lot more interesting then just all sand everywhere you look.  I guess I just worry about other people being pissy about the beach.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
