Recommended Posts

Hiya ladies - actually I got the postcards from zazzle.ca
This was the coolest thing ever! U can customize any postcard! They have images already and you can customize them to your liking..or even create your own too! I found some awesome pics of the Mayan and made my own postcards too! They were fairly cheap! Some only  $1.30 per card..some up to $1.60.
Ok..sorry to be off topic - back to GBP business! Lol

So Jazmin emailed me today, I had sent her a picture of a cake and asked if it was possible o have a 3 tier cake and decorate with flowers..she said

yes is possible and the cost is 85usd just please let me know which flavour from the options I sent already,
Note, there is an extra charge because a cake of 3 layers is not an option included in the wedding package but If they go with the heart shape or one layer conventional will not be extra charge and can still be for all the

I thought that if you didn't get dessert at the restaurant you could upgrade your cake for no extra charge?  i also assumed that the 3-tier would be the upgrade, did I misunderstand and the upgrade is actually just a bigger single layer cake? I am definitely going to ask Jazmin but I thought I would run it by here first.

Oops.  For anyone else interested I also should have mentioned I asked Jazmin about hanging paper lanterns at the reception.  She said she can hang them from palapas close to the area but if I want them hung over the area i need to bring all supplies including string..I am assuming the only supplies i need are the lanterns and the string but I just have to figure out how much string.

Hi Everyone! i've been reading for sometime - i've looked into getting one of my friends that is a photographer to come down to do the pictures. i know a few of you have done this - have you run into any problems with this? i can pay for someones trip to come to mexico and take pictures for our whole day and its a 1/4 of the price of the resort photographers! Any advice!

Thanks! :)

PS i leave in 3.5 weeks :) Married Nov 3, 2011 at Tulum :)

It most likely depends on quality and price. If you feel its more worth your money to bring your friend then go with that plan.
The resorts photographers are quite good - but I decided to bring my own photog for more money - because i'm getting more out of it. Keep in mind the resort photog's are just going to be there to do their 'job' and be done. You even have to pay extra for them to shoot at your reception.
I want a photographer who's going to make my wedding his priority. Your wedding photos are all you have to take away from the day and remember it for years on end. I'm spending 1/4 of my budget on my photographer and I'm so excited and confident about what we're getting out of it. You basically have zero control of anything else - especially planning your day from such a distance. Now - i have zero worries about my pictures.

Everyone's priorities are different. So you have to decided whats worth more to you. You won't get bad pictures if you go with the resort..but as far as value for your dollar its a different story. I'm not sure about the quality of your friends pictures so its hard to judge.
I just know for myself...i would never sacrifice quality to save a buck.

wesjor17 - first off, I get married the DAY BEFORE you!!! we leave in 3 weeks :D

Second, I am bringing my own photographer too. I'm paying for her trip and she is covering the whole day and giving me up to 800 edited photos on disc. Way more worth it even though the onsite photographers are really good, they have a really really high price with it ha ha. I've heard mixed things about bringing one down, I heard one person got arrested for working without a visa, I heard many people have done it without any problems at all... When you arrive in Cancun, going through customs you have to press a button that randomly selects people to go through their bags :s.. sooo im hoping my photographer isn't that lucky one but she is bringing her hubby so he will take some of her equipment and she'll take some some it doesn't seem to obvious that she is a photographer going to shoot something.

Hopefully everything works out!

Note; The manager of arrecife somehow got the idea that i was bringing my own when I told him i wasnt needing their photo services lol he told me they are not permitted (outside photographers) but if i did want to that i had to email him their full name, business name, website, dates of travel and she had to stay the same length of time as bride and groom ha ha sooo i think they will let you if you provide all that info, I am still just not saying anything and sticking with my i have lots of "friends and family taking pictures"

My photographer was a friend from home and we had no issues at all. I told Arrecife that I had brought my own photographer from home and they had no problem with it. They still offered to shoot some ceremony and group shots (to include my photographer friend as a guest) since it was included in our package. They got in the way of a few of my friend's shots which was a bit annoying but we did choose our 10 free photos and were happy with them. Totally worth it to me to bring someone I trusted and not pay a fortune!

I'm bringing my own photographer as well!! Mostly because he's super talented and I'll end up getting more pics from my big day! My photographer has done many destination weddings, and said that if we book his accommodation via our travel agent then we shouldn't have any problems. Probably because it will just look like he's part of the wedding group. Yay!! Can't wait to see pics from your wedding!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
