Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Not sure about Akumal Side but for private poolside reception on the Tulum Side I've been quoted $3130 USD - for 3 hours (6:30-9:30) This includes Buffet dinner...open bar for 2 hours and 1 hr of special cocktails...table cloths...sound system (microphone/speakers)..music..and assistance of DJ.
To extend this for another 90min - its an additional cost of $700 USD

I think I'm about to explode... Arrecife manager is STILL trying to charge me $700 for the video!! Even after I told him I was quoted $400 and only want a video of the ceremony, the lowest price he had is $500 for a 10 min video of ceremony... I REFUSE to pay $700. So i emailed him back and explained that I was quoted by the WC it was $400USD for a 25 min DVD of ceremony... then I attached the form I got from them that said exactly that, see whay he says. Grrrrrr!!

Cdunn514 did your WC tell you it would be extra for a bouquet like this or would this be included in your wedding package?  Evey bouquet that I send my wedding coordinator they come back with some ridiculous price.

For the most part I have selected everything...wedding date/time/location, dinner location, cake, reception location and a DJ. I pretty much have priced everything that I want to put in my OOT bags...I just have to wait on a headcount.  I am on the fence about hiring a makeup artist/stylist.  The best quote that I received for hair and makeup was $220 for the bride and $160 for bridal party.  The quote was from wedding riviera maya, they are full service wedding planners and were very responsive to my emails and needs.  Has anyone else requested quotes or have used their services?

One thing I did want to share is I was looking for something other than the normal guest book and I came across a thumbprint tree guest book.  The desinger will send you a big cool looking tree with your names at the bottom and your wedding date.  The guest would put their thumb prints on the trees as leaves and print their names by their thumb prints.  I thought that was cool fun thing to besides the normal guest book.

SHOES SHOES SHOES!  The one thing that is driving me crazy...I can't seem to find what I think are the perfect shoes.  Ideally I would like to have them when my dress comes in, which is December so I have sometime...but I am frustrated out of my mind!  Any suggestions?

For the bouquet this is the picture i sent them and they said that it should not be a problem at all with them doing this, and then i am going to have just the lilies with long stems for my bridesmaids which again she said should be fine:

I have not decided what I am going to do for my makeup either so i would love to hear if the resort did a good job, or if i should just plan on doing it myself.

For the cake, I think that I am just going to get the one that is given to us, I am not a big dessert person so that is not as important to me, and I think that as long as there is enough cake to go around that it should be fine

Hi Nikki,

A really cool alternative to the tree guest book would be a PALM tree guest book.  Have your guests finger prints be coconuts in the palm tree.  Since destination weddings tend to have less guests than normal weddings it should work out perfect! :)

No she did not say that it would cost more at all, she said that they should be able to do it no problem.

I have not gotten any quotes for hair and make up so i can not help you there. For shoes i am still trying to find some too! I have decided that I am going to be barefoot for the ceremony but i have not decided if i want to try and do heels or not i have my dress in but i am not having any alterations until november so i have to try and pick some out by then

Has anyone received cake options from Jazmin?  We want to go with a larger cake to feed all our guests but we won't be getting the dessert from the restaurant.  I asked Jazmin for pictures of our options but she just sent me the same pictures as before of the round or heart shape one tier cake....What kind of cakes have previous brides had?

Unfortunately what Jazmin sent you is what they offer. There's one more upgraded cake but all it is - is the round one with a 2nd tier ...Which I didnt think was too impressive so I asked about bringing in a cake from a bakery in PDC but Jazmin said no outside food is allowed into the resort because there's a chance it could give people food poisoning (i doubt it- but rules are rules)
Thats why we opted to have individual desserts with our meals AND the upgraded wedding cake - so there's plenty for everyone

I have been trying to search this thread for inforamation regarding passed horderves (but there is many different spellings so perhaps this is why)  I am thinking of just having passed horderves and snack type foods at the cocktail reception/dance with no sit down supper.  I recently went to a Cuba wedding and to be honest after sitting down and eatting a 4 course meal that last thing I wanted to do was drink/party/dance. The best part of that moment of the wedding was the speeches (so very heartfelt).  Easily done.  Guess the biggest concern would be the timing of it all,  Wedding, law low time, for people to grab a bit somewhere, then cocktail reception?  And to be honest the reason Im choosing a destination wedding is because of saving money, I have a large family, many of whom have expressed interest in coming (what the grand total will actually be who knows) but if I have to start paying for extra ppl it could add thousands on to the bill.   So now,  has anyone else thought about doing the same? Gotten any quotes regarding pass horderves or the like?  or have pictures of the possible sites for the cocktail hour? I was hoping a terrace or near the beach.  A beach party I think would be the greatest, have to decided that one for sure before I buy my shoes.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
