Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

I had a real flower in my hair and it looked fabulous...for the ceremony and the pictures after. I took it out after dinner since it was pretty wilted from the heat and humidity. Still wouldn't have gone fake though. I loved the idea of having a real fresh flower!

We kept all the flowers in the mini fridge in our room and put them in right before we left. Worked like a charm!

For anyone who has been married there or to the resort before, are the mosquitoes really bad? I have read a couple of reviews on tripadvisor and the people on there were complaining that this was a problem, I am just wondering if i should put some mosquito spray in my OOT bags?

For my wedding April they were not a problem at all.  However they had little golf carts out spraying the "jungle" areas daily.

I photographed a wedding in November in Riviera Maya and they were TERRIBLE.  I highly suggest something like this bug spray just in case.  It's SPF and bug spray in one.  That way if the bugs ARE bad then you don't have to spray two things on your skin.  I carry this with me in my bags for weddings and we use it in emergencies and it's lovely.  You can buy them at Walmart for cheaper, like $2 for a little bottle (like a pen).

Thanks I will look into those, we were in Riviera Maya last January (when we got engaged) it was at a different resort and before we went I had read the same thing about how bad the mosquitoes were but I didnt see one the whole time, so I am hoping that is how it will be again this year, but I think i will get those just in case.

A little FYI on bug bites, I tend to react to any bite with a big red welt. So, if you get a few and don't want this to ruin your pictures take an allergy pill such as Reactine right after you get bit. Clears them right up!

Thanks for all the tips!  I have a bunch more questions

Jazmin just sent me the bouquet options and I really like the white flower bouquets, I personally donâ€t prefer the ones that are really long stems and you have to kind of cradle them.  Are there any previous brides that chose their bouquet from the catalogue that could post pictures on here?  I am finding it hard to pick, I wish the catalogue showed different angles of each bouquet.  Also for any one that has had a bouquet that didnâ€t have a holder and just had the stems (long or short) did you find that the green in the stems leaked or got on your dress?

I canâ€t decide if I should get my make-up trial done at home and get some pointers on how to do it myself, or get a trial and have it done at the resort.  For anyone who had their make-up done at the resort, did it last all day?

As for the wedding cake, did anyone get the larger cake plus a dessert?  I am worried that if we buy a bigger cake plus a dessert no one will eat the cake; I am really leaning towards just getting a bigger cake and no dessert form the menu.  What did previous brides think of their cakes?

As for mosquitoes, I have been to this resort twice, last time was in Feb 2010 (when we got engaged) and I never saw a single mosquito on the resort or on our excursions (though there were a lot of black fly type things when we went to a cenote).  I still plan on bringing a small bottle of bug spray just in case but I donâ€t know if it would be worth putting in oot bags?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
