Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody!

just to help you with the dollars/pesos confusion.

I CAME BACK FROM THE RESORT THIS PAST MONDAY,our wedding was amazing,I am working on the review.

We booked with Thomas Cook in England and were told in writing to bring PESOS.

So we did, only to find out upon arrival that what it was supposed to be a new law fully implemented its not and EVERYPLACE IN THE RESORT WILL TAKE YOUR DOLLARS.In fact, prices in the shops and spa are in dollars. The wedding coordinator will talk in dollars, the photo prices are in dollars.

Now if you do have pesos they will take them also.

We figured eventually the country will switch over to pesos as it should be.But in the meantime I wouldnt worry too much. The hotel has an exchange desk and the rates pound-pesos were the same I got in one of the best bureaus in the UK.

Good luck, let me know if I can help with anything.

Kiss,Kiss

Valerie

Uh,by the way...

The disco opens at 11pm.The bars in the Hacienda open at 7pm and there is live music in front of them with people dancing and all from 9-11pm every night. We didnt do that on uor wedding night however we went the next night and we all had a great time. The dancers will take the public to dance and it gets really fun.

crystalz - OK that makes sense if your wedding is in November.  My wedding is June 11, 2011 so the sunset happens later.

I have recently been reading other bride's planning threads on the forum and got inspired to create some monograms.  I don't know yet what I'll use them for, but had fun making them.  I found a lot of information on this girl's blog http://weddingmonograms.blogspot.com/2008/02/tropical-dingbats.html  I was able to use PowerPoint and installed some of the free tropical fonts that she show on the website.  This is what I have so far (sorry the images are so big):

Starfish Monogram

Shell Monogram

Palm Monogram

Your monograms look awesome!  Love the colours. I'm going to have to check out that link myself.

Hi Ladies,

I just came back from this resort on Sunday.  We went to check it out for a possible location for our wedding next year.  We enjoyed our stay in the Akumal section.  There were 3 brides on our flight and I know at least 2 of them had their weddings at this resort.  They seem to know what they are doing as there was atleast 2 weddings each day we were there.

As for US Dollars, american money was 100% accepted in the resort.  We brought US and used it for everything.  I believe it only comes into play with larger payments, as they are trying to monitor the american cash flow within Mexico.

I can try to answer any questions you ladies may have, I had seen a few receptions around the pools and the set up was nicely done with balloon decor and neon lights.  I definately would prefer the Hammock location personally over the gaezebo as you have a better view of the water.  There are a lot of trees/shurbs blocking the waterfront view in the gaezebo, but it is definately more private...althought there are not many people that sit down near the hammock section of the beach, but there still are some :)

It may take me a while to repsond as i am on here off and on, but feel free to ask or PM me :)  We have definately made it a contending resort we will make our final decision once the prices are viewable online for May 2012.

Hi,

I just booked me wedding at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum, and I have some questions, and am looking for some advice.

We are getting married December 8th, 2011 (date has been confirmed with the wedding planner).

The wedding is set for the palapas beach location for 2pm. I was hoping for some advice on how the rest of the afternoon should go after the ceremony. I want to have a reception for a few hours, but not till a bit later in the evening.

I am assuming the wedding with take half an hour, then probably photos for an hour.... We are getting the unforgettable package, which I think includes a dinner... and then I would like a reception after that. How would you fill the time between the photos and the dinner/reception?

Any other advice would be extremely appreciated!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
