Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hey Jody, you were right actually. The cheapest bar option is $5 for the first hour, and $3 for subsequent hours and the WC told me that the DJ was $190 per hour- so your math was correct. They recommended 3 hours, but I worked it out with my FI today and we decided to go for the two hours. It's important to us to have the first dance and speeches and to spend time with our guests which we can do in two hours.... plus according to CanadianKim and many others on here, it seems like it was definitely worth it!! It seems that there is another DJ (Bijan?) that other brides on here have used, but I think it'll be easiest to just go with the one they provide you at the resort even though pricier. For us, the extra $644 for two hour poolside cocktail party is totally worth it! And apparently they may just give you all the booze, but charge you the cheaper option!! So here's hoping they screw up.

And I am six weeks away, and I am pretty sure that you don't have to tell them right away if you want it or not. I'll let you know if they tell me it's too late! Though I am pretty sure I would go bridezilla on their asses. They want to make the money though, so they wouldn't say no to you adding more costs!

The judge fees are included in the package, but if you look at the price for the "fake" wedding, it is much cheaper, because they pad the "real" wedding price to include these. So really, you end up paying more. I'm doing it though-- I want it all done same day!

klc30- good to know about the hair! Now I'm freaking! I'm getting a trial done before I leave with my hairdresser and I am taking pics and giving to them to reproduce. Which shouldn't be too hard. I hope. GAH!!

I am getting a veil for sure!! Completes the dress- and cheezy floating sea-breeze is necessary for sure!!! Although I am taking it off post-haste after the ceremony (to show off the flower in my hair of course)

CDunn- The WC told me the disco opens at 11:30, but online it says midnight. No clue how close another bar would be-- although triple fisting and coming back to the party is always an option! It can't be too far!

Anyone going to be there between May 8th and May 22? My wedding day is Friday the 13th of May. Scary! Good thing is, if something goes wrong, there is copious amounts of tequila close by!!

CanadianKim, you are officially the guru for me! Thanks for the insight. You're from Vancouver? I'm from Kamloops!

Do you know about the birth certificate? I thought I had everything I needed, but I've read somewhere on here about a long form birth certificate? Translated?! I have a small one, not a large one, and I didn't think we needed to translate it. Now I'm very worried! I've never been married, and since my passport and birth certificate have the same name, that I was aok....

Thoughts??!!

Thanks! Glad I could help. Ya I'm from Vancouver! Its hard to research all the legal stuff online. I read a bunch of different stuff and got confused and worried that i wasn't going to have everything needed. In the end all we did for the legal work was fill out a document(Microsoft word file) that the coordinator sent over. This had basic info such as full names and address and parents names and witness's and all that. Basic info really. Then we just e ailed that back to her. Then we of course needed passports for us as well as our four witnesses. We brought our birth certificates but didn't end up needing them. You meet with the wedding coordinator the day after you get there and she makes copies of everyone's passports and you go to the clinic which is in the resort at the hacienda and get your blood tests. That's all the legal work that's involved in Mexico anyways. When you get back to Canada in order to get your name changed turned out to be more work then I thought but not the end of the world. You have to wait the roughly three months for the legal copy of the marriage certificate and then it has to be translated by a certified translator before you can change anything over. We've been married just over four months now and I have most of my ID changed to my new name. :)

I was quoted $1000.00 extra for the Poolside reception for a max. of 50 people? She said that included DJ and everything?! Hmmm?!

i didn't get the breakdown that you got! I totall agree that it seems everything is extra we went down a package because we realized that alot of things weren't included!

I haven't had a hard time keeping in contact with our WC - we have Jazmin

Hi everyone!!

I have a couple quick questions:

Did anyone here do a rehersal, the parents are a little stressed out about not having one? To go along with that what about a rehersal dinner? We are doing a Welcome dinner at the main buffet but did anyone do a private dinner or something specail? What did you do and who did you use? Lastly, the boys want to go fishing while they are down there, did anyone have really good luck with any of the companies down there and would you recomend them?

Thank you in advance, this site has been a fantastic resource for planing out wedding...which is in 33 days!!!

Saucy Friend -  My coordinator didn't give me a breakdown of the cocktail party costs.  For our 3 hour cocktail party she quoted us $540 for 25 people or $720 for 40 people for the cheapest drink option available.  We're using a DJ from outside (DJ Julian from Mood Event Services) and our coordinator said we will have to pay $90 day pass for our DJ.  It sounds like I'm getting screwed, because if I used the prices you provided, I should only have to pay for 40 people - $12x40 people = 480.  Yet I'm paying $720 + $90 day pass to bring the DJ on-site.  I think because your wedding is happening sooner they had different prices...they seem to have changed the prices now?  Or should I call and ask them why they're screwing me?? lol

cdunn514 - What I'm planning to do is choose the cheapest drink option.  The wedding coordinator said if we want additional variety of drinks, we could bring our own bottles of alcohol and the bartenders will serve it to our guests.  So we are planning on renting a car, going to some store and buying some bottles of alcohol.

I know from the website on http://www.bahia-principe.com/BP/Resorts/Resort/VivirLaNoche/Tulum , the disco closes at 2:30 pm. According to our wedding coordinator, the disco opens at midnight.  But I read from people on this forum that there is live music at the Hacienda, which you can enjoy until the disco opens.

Below is the information I'm giving my guests on transport from the airport to the hotel.

To arrange ground transportation from the airport to the hotel, click on the link above that says "view website". On that website, type in the name of the hotel "Gran Bahia Principe" Tulum or Coba and the date you arriving and it will show you the prices.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
