Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hey Scottish, if you don't mind my asking what's on your list??

I saw you were asking if anyone had the Mayan Spiritual Ceremony, we haven't but that is what we're hoping to do...  I saw pictures on Claudia Rodrigues' photo site, I think the photog was Albert or Alfred, either way he was the bottom photographer, the brides name is Dominika!!!

Other than that I can't seem to find any other info other than the price!

A question for those of you who had beach weddings: is the sand too hot to go barefoot, or has this been done before? I am getting married in April and was hoping to do so. I have been down to GBP once before in Sept, but cannot remember if it was too hot to go barefoot.

Thanks

I got married on the beach in April and it was hot on my feet, but it wasn't terrible actually.  Almost all of my guests ended up kicking off their shoes, so it must not have been too bad :)

jennster_04 your pics are stunning!  i think the resort photog did a great job for you.

as for the other ladies worried about bringing in a photographer...just don't tell anyone...and have them be your guest.  we had a pro photographer (that i never told karla we were bringing) and about 3 or 4 guests who had professional cameras and 2 or 3 people taking video as well.  they were our guests...and no one stopped them during the ceremony.

we only ended up getting 12 photos from the resort photog...and it was mainly due to the fact that everyone was taking pics.  i swear out of 42 guests the only people NOT taking photos/videos of us were the wedding party.  only one comment was made from the resort photog about all the photos being taken and i said our family is really into photography.  i honestly wasn't expecting so many cameras that day but it was fun to see everyone's perspective too.

if you do use the resort photog i just suggest you meet with them before the actual day of your wedding.  i think it's important to talk to them about what you would like and don't want in photos.

they are a little pricey...but they are still cheaper than paying for a pro photog to come from home with travel expenses and fees for the day.

i think if you were to try and use a local photog it would be harder as the resort is probably familiar with them already.

and remember ladies...don't stress so much about the planning.  enjoy the day and keep things simple.

also...for anyone else who wants the welcome template i have can you please PM me for it and not post your request in the forum.  i don't get a chance to come on here as often lately.  i just emailed it to a bunch of people so check your junk mail just in case.

KevnAnna, I ave everything from underwear, flowers, barefoot sandals, hair make up etc on my list (I'm an excel freak ha ha).  I also have a wedding budgeting one if you'd like a copy.  http://www.cancun-weddings.com/Traditional_Maya_Wedding/.  Here's the link I found for the ceremy we would like.  It's not a legal service though but as we're already married and just having a blessing it's perfect for us.

Like Swankster said, I wouldn't bother. Our ceremony was at 4 (well, 4:20...we were late due to a broken down tram...makes for a good story though!). All the guests went back to the Coba lobby for drinks and then dinner was at 6. I wouldn't bother paying for appetizers or a cocktail hour when you're guests can mingle at one of the snack bars for free!

Ladies you all need to relax a bit. enjoy your wedding, its a freaking destination wedding! The resort is soo beautiful, pictures don't do this place justice!

If you want to bring your own photographer just do it, stop complaining about it. The less questions you ask the better with the resort, You are in Mexico not Canada not the UK and not USA! They do everything different, they don't speak good English but guess what your in their Country! Honestly if you want to bring your own photographer do it! just don't tell them they cant do anything about it. They said we couldn't video tape well guess what we did and they didn't say anything about it ! They don't care, they wont say anything. But if you ask them of course they want you to use the resort photographer.

Juan was our photographer and he was amazing, he was never in the way and i love all my photos and worth every penny.

Everyone will have a different experience , its what YOU make of it, complaining about the little things in life is such a waste . when you get there the resort speaks for itself.

Ladies have fun, try to relax! Enjoy your wedding!!!!

Agreed! When it comes to rules and regulations, they are far more laid back in Mexico. They tell one person one rule and change it the next day or make exceptions. This is not unprofessional to them, it's just the way things are. Unless they specifically tell you you can't do something, assume you can and don't ask questions. They're not going to tell you no when you're already there!

Try to remember that this is a completely different culture and they handle things a bit differently than we do in Canada/USA. They don't understand why we get all uptight about chair sashes, programs, centerpieces and flowers. For them, a wedding is about celebrating the love between husband and wife and having a great party! For me, this is why we had our wedding here...we didn't want to stress over all those details. I left everything in their very capable hands and everything turned out absolutely perfect. Keep it in perspective and trust that GBP throws amazing weddings!

Hi Ladies,

Thank you so much for all your posts and replies.  I really appreciate you taking the time to write to give us soon-to-be brides advice.  It's really nice to have someone who has already been there share their experience.  Also, a big thanks to those who have personally emailed me- I promise I will get back to you soon.

For me, I don't care about the little details (the bows, ceterpeices, programs, ect).  I'm in grad school and am consumed by school....  that's why we are doing a DW :).  What I do care about is the photography.  This is really important to me.  While some of you have emailed to indicate that you did not like Arrecife's work, it is reassuring that a couple of you were happy with the photos. I am hopeful that this situation with the resort photographer will be sorted when Paloma returns from her holidays.

Thanks again,  I don't know what I would do without this site.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
