Hi Guys!  Wow!  It's apparently been awhile since i've been on here, and I'm so sorry!

What drama I have missed.

That is COMPLETE crap that they won't let you choose your photographer.  Rather than sending emails, i would have your travel agent call them.

You might not be able to have a local photographer but hopefully you can still fly someone in. Being forced to use someone who has shown no consistancy to their work is really scary.  Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's utter crap.  That's a scary risk.

Hopefully you can have your TA battle it out for a guest at your wedding to take photos.

Good luck you guys!

Our cake was beautiful! We got a 2 tier cake and they didnt charge us extra. One of my guest took picktures of the cake so i will post when he gives me the pictures.

Yes we did have a poolside recpetion and we  went with the resort dj. Ladies you have to do the poolside reception! No question!..its worth every penny!!!  It was amazing! also there is nothing else to do other then go to the hacenida after dinner. We did speeches, first dance bouquet toss and garter toss at the poolside .We had the polside from 8-11 and then we all went to the hacienda after. Bride and groom didnt stay long at the haceineda but all of our guest shut it down haha They all stayed till 5am!! Im glad they had fun!

We went with the resort photograpger, "Juan" Who was amazing. Ladies iw ouldnt worry so much on the photograpgher, its a destination wedding which should be less stress for everyone. The  resort photograpghers are really really good.

The only thing im upset about its that our minister was 1.5 hours late... they found a replacement for him. which meant i got 1.5 less time with our photograpgher on the beach.

Im getting more pictures from guests at the end of the month ill let everyone know when i get more.

Swankster Welcome Back!!! Glad to know that you are still around given the fact the "big" day for us is just over 2 months away! I can't believe it!

We are having a friend of ours take the majority of our pictures but are still taking the ones that come with our package! Your pictures are amazing! Now seeing yours I'm not worried anymore about how they will turn out! I'm more worried about only choosing 10 and not going crazy over board.

For the rest of you that were asking, we too choose to do the poolside reception. I will certainly post pictures when we come back if it will help the peple getting married after us!

Welcome back Jennster and Swankster!  I hope your wedding was everything you dreamt of!  I am also having the private poolside reception and hired DJ Bob.  I've read some great reviews about him.   We have 60 people, so it should be quite the party!

I would love to read your reviews of GBP when you get the chance.  Thanks for helping us out.

Definitely do the poolside reception!! It was so much fun! We used the resort DJ and he was pretty good. He asked what kind of music we wanted and our guests were feeding him requests most of the night. We were only supposed to have the reception until 10:30 but they let us stay until 11:30 at no extra charge. We also had the full bar service (Karla never even asked us what level we wanted!) and it was no more expensive than the lowest level.

Our whole group changed and headed to the Hacienda after the reception and like Jennster, bride & groom didn't stay too long but everyone else closed the place down.

My review's in my siggy if you're interested in the whole story!

I agree with the poolside reception! Ours was moved due to rain but they moved us closer to Las Olas snack bar... we were still outside but had a roof (the north side of the snack bar is pretty open and has a covered overhang... it was perfect and I'm actually glad we got moved!

Someone wanted to see cake pics... here is ours. It was tres leches... it was okay but i was so stuffed at that point that I only had a bite. We had them add an extra layer (for 30 peeps). but we didn't need to add the extra layer because we had more than enough and ended up wasting most of it.

So they won't allow an outside vendor but can you have a guest who is staying at the hotel take your pictures? There has to be some OPTIONS!!  They can't be so strict about this. Every other resort at least gives you the option to purchase a day pass for an outside photographer or have a guest take your pictures. If enough people complain about this than maybe they will change it.  Do they know that this forum exists because you can seriously lose a ton of business by acting this way? I was so excited about my wedding and know I'm starting to stress out and not want to go there. What about videographers? Let me guess he does that too. I want an actual videographer, not a CD of my pictures set to music.

Did anyone get a video of their wedding done by the resort that they could share? I thought destination weddings were supposed to be less stress! haha

I'm sorry they won't let you use outside videographers either (KRama has used Arrecife's videographer- you should read her review).  KRama said she wouldn't recommend them and that they put the wrong wedding date at the end of her video...

As far as losing business, a few of my friends are looking around for a resort for their DW.  Up until this time, GBP was top on their list.  Unfortunately, due to the inflexible demands of Arrecife, they all decided not to use GBP.  They are all coming to our wedding, so they can judge for themselves on the services provided.   Word does travel fast- the internet is a powerful tool and we are at the age where everyone we know is getting married.  This can't be good for GBP's business.

On a side note, we have Eugenia as our wedding coordinator and she is awesome!

None taken, but for me to be accused of being a vendor because I'm well informed is bogus.

I just feel like I can help because I have talked to them on the phone & by e-mail, my parents went and talked to them for me as well. Do any of you know what photographers are available? Prices? Equipment, anything? No. You have only "read" hearsay and rumors in this forum. I know if I do decide on that venue, I will have at least made an informed decision.

The reviews from brides recently wed at GBP confirm the information I've gotten, they have said nothing but very good things...

I'm not saying you are a vendor, I said you SOUNDED like a vendor!  No offence but when a newbie starts off all their posts going on and on and on about the vendor, and not much else, it looks suspicious!!

I did say no offence ment!

Do you have their pricing??  I've been looking for pricing information, and I honestly can't find anything concrete!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
