Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Welcome Amanda!

I had the private wedding reception by the pool, however during our stay we ate at the Dolce Vita.  It was nice.

They are actually the same building, just seperated by a wall.  Frutos is seafood and Dolce is Italian.  Either one I've heard is wonderful for a wedding reception and has good food.

WAH :(

I'm totally devastated right now, apparently Bahia has implemented absolutely no professinal wedding photogs rule, this "apparently" includes no guest professional photographers...  PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!

I'm still waiting on prices, and hopefully sooner than later, we'll be able to book, either GBP Akumal (FH put his foot down, no beach-no go) and Coba for him is a no go, so Akumal, or Barcelo Palace, at this point there's two things holding me back:  Prices and Photography, I'm not impressed with arrecife, and I HATE being told what I can and CANNOT do when I'm dropping 6+++ grand on your resort, I mean it's not like I'm asking them to allow me to bring in a joint roller for the evening, just a photographer that I trust! kwim??

BTW anyone have fire dancers??  I really want some authentic/ethnic entertainment, and I saw in one of the Barcelo reviews a bride had them on her beach reception!!

Here's to hearing back quickly from the TA and the resort, though I'm not holding my breath!!!

No guest photographers?? I don't know if they can do that! Who's to say your photographer isn't just an over zealous guest with a really good camera?

Our photographer was a good friend of ours who came as a guest and they had no issue with this (our wedding was in May this year).

The package we had included 10 photos from the resort photographer who turned out to be Arrecife Studios. He was good (I can post the photos if you're interested) but he only presented us with 60 edited pics to choose from. The first 10 were free and then he charged $15 per picture after that.

We had the videographer as well and even though I'm glad we have it, the quality is terrible compared to some of the ones I've seen on this forum...she even put the WRONG DATE at the end of the video!

I can't really say I'd recommend them.

We didn't use them as our official photographer because we had one but the package provided 5 free pics so they were there shooting our whole wedding anyway and then tried to sell us the pics.  They did a nice job. If we hadn't had a photographer, we probably would have bought them but our guy got all the same pics and he was a guest so it didn't cost us anything.  They seem to really do alot of effects to the pics I noticed.  They're cool though.

Has anyone use Arrecife Studios?  I've read a lot of negative reviews about them and am getting nervous.

I am in panic mode at the moment, have just realised that I only have 291 sleeps!!!!!! so little time & so much to do!!!! hahahaha

Sherileigh if you send me your email adress I will send you all the price lists from resort for all the different options they sent me.  I am not having the resort dj for my reception as have found a cheaper one from this site who comes with great reviews!!

As for photographer I am having the exact same concerns, I nearly had kittens when I found out we had to use the resort one!!   Waiting for Swanksters review as she used them...................As for guest photographers I agree with Krama, they can't stop a 'friend' of yours taking pictures??

Think I have found my dress (it is out of two!!) eeeek so exciting!! cheesy.gif

PERFECT, so very glad I found this adress, it's COMPLETELY different than the one I got from the travel agent, the one she gave me said TULUM, which I think is wierd as we're hoping to have it at the Akumal side!

Hi Joanna,

Here is the info I have from an email from Paloma. I found if I c.c'd Paloma in I usually got a quicker response. Although our WC was recently changed, and our new WC has been fabulous, always quick to respond. But it never hurts to email, or cc Paloma as well.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
