As for the per person charge. Yes, there is. There is a bar fee ($5 per person per hour) and then a food charge. Although it is an all inclusive, you are paying for the service and set up.
I have heard wonderful things about the dinner that comes with the packages though, it's just not private.
Do you think I could even plan a dinner for 75 ppl that isn't private? That seems almost silly...but I guess anything is possible in some of the huge restaurants. Do you have any idea what the per person charge is for a private dinner?

I had the same questions and I got some answers from the WC. I will have a lot of people at my reception as well. They will block off in area in one of the a la carte restaurants (no charge) OR you can have it outside near one of the pools for additional charge per person. If it rains, they will put everyone in a conf. room (if there's availibilty). Here's some of the options for the outside dinner:

Gala dinner:

6 starters, 2 soups, 6 main dishes (with seafood), dessert 72 US$/pers

BBQ dinner:

5 starters, 5 main dishes, dessert buffet 46 US$/pers

Mexican night:

5 starters, 5 main dishes, dessert buffet 46 US$/pers

Caribbean night:

5 starters, 5 main dishes, dessert buffet 48 US$/pers

Lobster Dinner/ Special Luxury Menu At a specialty restaurant 60 US$/pers

At a location out of the restaurants 100US$/pers

I can provide more info if you need it. The WC emailed me whats on the menu with the Gala, BBQ dinner etc..

I think i am going to have the dinner in an a la carte restaurant b/c of wind, bugs etc.. The WC said since we have so many people that we have one set menu- I said that's impossible b/c not everyone wants the same entree and that's just ridiculous. She said i woul have to provide a list a head of time, 10 want chicken 10 want steak etc... You can do the same thing.

I am going to the resort next weekend for a site inspection and to meet with the WC. i can post more when i get back.

Thanks! What I was hoping for was a private reception at an indoor location...bummer. I agree with you about bugs and wind. I went to a restaurant in the DR during a wedding dinner (it was a blocked off section of tables) and I could hear all of their speeches and everything. So I think I'm trying to stay away from having the reception in an a la carte... But maybe the Gran Bahia has a much better set up...let me know when you get back!

Hey girls! I just wanted to let you know that the bar setup is $5 per person for the first hour and $3 per person for each additional hour. (So two hours would work out to $8 per person).

Cassondra, I'm sure you could see about renting the conference room, if they let people use it as back up, I'm sure they'd rent it outright.

Well, I got engaged a month ago! And I've finally officially set the date with the Gran Bahia Akumal. DANG, they are difficult... but i don't care!

Did you have to fill out the wedding application? Ours has income and stuff about debt/assets on it? Did you fill that out or leave it blank?

I didn't fill out any application that had our income and assets on it. The only questions I had to answers was: Names, Wedding Date Requested, Wedding time requested, approximate # of guests, # of kids, only those sort of q's.

What kind of application did you get smile43.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
