I can't believe that article is from NY b/c I swear I can't imagine how you have a wedding here for that amount. I was quoted close to $15,000 for a lunch at a restaurant for about 125 people. This isn't even a fancy schmancy restaurant. Hmmmm....

A saturday day wedding here (from 12PM to 5PM) costs about $118 per person. This isn't for a fancy place nor for a dump, just a regular nice place. A saturday night wedding is usually $250-$300 per person (not including tax or gratuity). I'm also quoting summer prices. If you get married in the winter its a lot cheaper.

Has anyone gone shopping for a gown in NYC/ The prices are obscene. I won't even set foot in those places. Pretty much David's Bridal is the only affordable place around here. I think its b/c the rentals for the store are so high.

If I had that kind of money I would pay off my mortage or debt. No way would I ever spend that much for a wedding. Then again I'm not a bridezilla. LOL.

Please don't judge me, but that's what we spent on our Cabo wedding. (For 33 guests and honeymoon included.) I know it's OUTRAGEOUS but Cabo ain't cheap and I really feel like I did what I wanted and didn't skimp on anything. In fact, we went a little overboard on our menus and gifts for our guests.

Had I gotten married in NY, we would have had 100 people and I probably would have spent the same amount of money. Only I wouldn't have had 3 days worth of events and extra gifts for the guests. (Welcome Dinner, Wedding day, OOT bags, Farewell Brunch, fireworks, etc.)

I don't think we really have the right to judge anyone Jen. You know what works for you guys. You know the limitations you have. I WISH I didn't have any, but I do/did. I loved my wedding but sure, there are a few extras I would have LOVED to have had but I have to pay off my debt sometime. No way in hell I could have justified spending more than my means and accumulating more debt. No good. sad.gif

By the way, if you decide to do your wedding over, I would love to be invited.

OMG I never judge! LOL. I loved your wedding! It was fabulous! I was just saying that I personally couldn't afford that myself. But even if I had $60,000 I would need to pay a mortgage or debt first. But heck if I had the money I would do it too. The Plaza Hotel here I come! LOL.

Jen I was just stating that I found that article odd b/c I think weddings in NY are pretty expensive. Don't you agree? Like you said, if you had a 100 person wedding in NY it would have cost you about $60,000. Its expensive. And like you mentioned you got days not just hours and had an amazing time in a great location!

Oh some are fun and then some aren't. You know what's sad, my family thanked me for the wedding (specifically my grandma) because she said this is the first family wedding she hasn't had to work at. Granted, only 4 grandkids have gotten married, but seriously, I think that's sad. Don't make grannie scrub the dishes and cut cake!

I've actually only been to 2 weddings that had sit-down dinners included. Most I've been to have an afternoon ceremony & then a couple hour break before the reception - everyone goes their seperate ways to eat during this time & them all get back together for the reception. There is usually a midnight buffet of pretty basic stuff (sandwiches, fruit & veggies, meat & cheese, etc) & I've thought they're all lovely!

I honestly think the most expensive wedding I've ever been to cost $12,000 for 150 people with the big sit-down dinner included (mind you I live in Northern Ontario so prices are MUCH cheaper here)

I think the wedding should reflect the couple. Most people I know are laid-back, easygoing, middle of the road people. Nobody is rich, nobody is close to rich lol My friend is trying to plan a big hoity-toity sounding wedding, but a few of her best friends have got together & reminded her that she doesn't have to try to impress anybody with her wedding & that it should be all about her & her FI.

I don't mind people wanting to have an expensive or nice wedding. I just think it's insane to go over your means just to impress anyone. If you can afford it & it suits your personality & lifestyle - go for it! If it doesn't, then don't do it!

Just my opinion. Hope I don't offend anyone! :)

You said what I was trying to explain. LOl. Except you said it more eloquently. I too hope I haven't offended anyone, that was not my intention. I was trying to comment on how much people should spend I only meant to comment on my surprise that the article was referring to weddings in NY, b/c as a whole I find that weddings here cost more. It has nothing to do with how much people spend it has to do with how much places charge. Like I said, I think its b/c real estate in NYC is super expensive and we have high tax so I think it make everything so much more expensive.

Hell yeah NY wedding are expensive!!! In fact, most weddings I've been to here cost more than that. I've been to weddings that are well over $100,000. And they're beautiful, but not much different than weddings that cost a fraction of that. Ok, maybe there are more flowers and a band (rather than a DJ) but that's about it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
