Ready to start planning for Playa del Carmen!!

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Thanks for your input everyone! The files that AEROO posted are identical to what I was sent by Walter who is in charge of group events and receptions at The Royal. He EXCELLENT at responding to emails (he's been responding the next day or same day), while Zulma's timing leaves a little to be desired as I still have not heard back from her.

I did email Zulma again about having my ceremony on the beach. While I would have been happy with the wedding packages on the webiste last year, when I thought that getting married wouldn't be such a big issue (nor would my partner EVER ask me), I certainly don't want any of those now. I want customization!

Does anyone have any information regarding a (non-mayan) ceremony on their beach? I was considering the private beach in Playacar Phase I, but having it at the hotel (or at least in town) would save me the cost of have to rent vans for 30-40 people.

I read that maybe it wouldn't be so private, but having specific music is important to me -- not so hot on mariachis or violins or peruvian flutes orchestrating tht big day....

Any info or opinions would be very appreciated while I wait for Zulma to get back to me.

Oh, and for the beach reception, $70 (non-resort residents), $60 (Gran Porto residents) and $50 (Royal residents) per person will get you the following:

-PRIVATE AREA ( BEACH, GARDEN, BALLROOM)

-SPECIAL SET UP WITH WHITE TABLE CLOTHES, COVER CHAIRS AND RIBBONS, CANDLES ON THE TABLES

-TICKY TORCHES AND LIGHTS UNDER THE TABLES IN CASE OF BEACH RECEPTIONS

-DECORATIONS ( WITH PLANTS AND BALLOONS IF REQUIRED )

-SPECIAL DELUXE 4 COURSES MENU ( MENU CHOSEN WILL BE THE SAME FOR ALL GUESTS, THE HOTEL ADMITS MAX. 3 EXCEPTIONS FOR VEGETARIANS AND PEOPLE WITH FOOD ALLERGIES )

-INTERNATIONAL OPEN BAR ( PREMIUM BRANDS LICORS, BEERS, SODAS, JUICES, COCKTAILS, HOUSE WINES )

-WAITER SERVICE

-SPECIAL BAR SET AT LOCATION

-TAXES AND SERVICE

Sounds lovely to me!

I'm hoping one of my contacts on the forum here is going to send me Walter's email addy, so that at least I can try him. I too, have tried Zulma numerous times, and although I still have a year to plan, I'm a little disappointed that I have heard from NOBODY at all from the resort. I mean, if she doesn't have time herself, I'd obviously be more than willing to speak to someone else in the interim! Oh well...Hopefully I can get the ball rolling with Walter, who sounds wonderful, and put a little of my fears at ease.

The beach reception is exactly what I want with set up for an iPod or something so we can play specific music. $50/head for what you're getting is fabulous, plus, from what I have read, that might include also a dance area and setup?! I'm not certain on this, but have a suspicion that it is!

It absolutely does sound devine...

I simply cannot wait to make it all happen. Thank you so much for your continued help...everyone.

Yes, the price includes the complete set up of dance floor, lights, stereo system, tiki torches, EVERYTHING. You've got a wireless mic too, for speeches. It's a great deal for what you get. They will also help you set up your centerpieces too. If you don't have any centerpieces they provide hurricane candles for every table. Walter is great at getting back to you. Just be patient because May is one of their busiest months. There are pretty much weddings every day. Good luck!

I had both the reception and ceremony at the Gran Porto, but I have information for both hotels. I ultimately chose the Gran Porto because it was a lot cheaper for the guests to stay there (but still with 5 star luxury!) and also because they allow children. Everything went very smoothly. Even though the WC doesn't get back to you right away, once you meet with her there, everything is taken care of. I don't regret the choice at all.

Here are a few pictures I posted:

Aeroo,

Thank you so much for all the information. like Shay, I haven't heard anything back from either Zulma or Paty. I even spoke to Paty on the phone few days ago and she advised me to send an e-mail to her with specific dates, requests and information. But, I think her e-mail box is completely full, and after trying for three days I basically gave up. I am thinking of calling her or Zulma again tomorrow or Monday.

I will most likely have guests with children to stay at Gran Porto, and my family members stay at the Royal, and I was wondering if guests of Gran porto was allowed to enter the premises of the Royal and vice versa?

Thanks for all of your help! I really appreciate it!

Guests at the Gran Porto can use the facilities and restaurants at the Royal if they buy a day pass at $20 per person per day. I believe Royal guests are allowed to use facilities and restaurants at the Gran Porto for no charge, although I am not sure 100% on that one. But since they are sister hotels they have some sort of exchange for sure.

I checked with my travel agent on this as well just yesterday, and she advised that guests staying at the Gran Porto can use the facilities at the Royal on the day of the wedding, but other than that, they were limited to "their" hotel for the rest of the stay. She was not aware of a per person, per day fee to use the hotel facilities other than that. She said that the persons staying at the Royal, had full access to the Italian restaurant (Il Pescatore) at the Gran Porto and their beach because these guests are paying more (basically).

I have not received a confirmation directly from the hotel yet.

Also, as Aeroo has mentioned, it is the end of May and our coordinators down South may just be swamped with all the weddings happening this year! I'm just going to try to relax for the next week or so, and hope that by mid June, I've had many of my questions answered as they begin to slow down. Patience isn't my stong suit, but I'm going to try!!

The food was amazing. Excellent quality and presentation. Definately equivalent to dining in a high end restaurant here at home. A 4 course meal like that would have cost well over $100 per person in Canada. Food there is one thing I would not worry about at all! Everyone said it was delicious and looked stunning.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
