Anyone else stressing about increasing airfare prices?

Recommended Posts

So I am very aware that when the price of oil and gas goes up, airfare prices go up too. I have even witnessed this myself when making travel reservations for our wedding. I have seen airfare prices increase $100 from a Monday to a Wendesday when I was ready to book for some of my family. I have been very persistant with my friends to book their travel as soon as possible but there are a few who strongly believe that after the summer airfare prices will go back down. It started with a few friends who convinced a few other friends that prices will go down and now people are just waiting instead of booking!!! And since my wedding is in November they feel like they have a lot of time.

In the meanwhile, I am really stressing because I am constantly looking at prices and I see them go up and up. I even sent my friends 2 news articles that talk about airlines being forced to increase their prices:

United hikes fares 3 to 5 percent, cites fuel costs - News - MSNBC.com

United hikes fares 3 to 5 percent, cites fuel costs - News - MSNBC.com

Their response to that is that they wont be using the airlines discussed in the articles so not to worry BUT OFCOURSE I'M WORRYING. worried2.gif

Is anyone else worried like I am about priceshuh.gif I am so afraid that by the time my group decides to book it will be so expensive and noone will be able to go msncry.gif

Maybe some of the travel agents that know the industry better have some feedback.

I'm in the same boat...freaking about airfair. As of right now, you can book round trip for 2 people for under $1000, I can't imagine what it's going to be come August.

I just sent otu a post card with all the booking information and a note on the bottom that says "We are not trying to rush anyone, but if you are planning on coming, we suggest you book at least your air ASAP. As prices are expected to skyrocket this summer".

Even if it does go down, it won't go as low as it is now. Espeically if it goes up significantly. Yes, if it's August and you're ready to book, you might be better off waiting until Mid-Sept...but you're better off booking now, before they go up so much that even when they go down they aren't as low.

I don't know if what I wrote made any sense...I think it was just jumble.

Can you tell I'm freaking too?

I am soooo worried about that too. I want my guest to be able to afford it and not stress over how expensive the airfare is !

Right now gas is almost $5/gallon ! wtf.gif

So by next year November (for my wedding) what is it gonna be? $6/gallon ??

Its nuts ! voodoo.gif

Airfare increases prevented a lot of people from being able to attend my wedding. But, you have to be able to accept that. I'm happy with the 24 guests we will have. It allowed me to be able to take everyone on an excursion & make better OOT bags. I wouldn't have been able to do that with the 50+ people who originally wanted to come.

Luckily my family had already booked & all the people that had to be there. I was also really glad we picked a cheaper hotel to offset the travel cost. Even with high airfare, it's still a good deal on a vacation.

I'm getting a little stressed about the cost of flying home. I live out of state from my family. I'm attending a wedding in houston & one in ohio this summer. Airfare is so high!

I agree...prices are not going to drop after summer. They will stay high. I saw a gas station today at $4.03!!!!

I recently had our flights to Jamaica booked and thought we were good to go...until out TA let me know that Continental canceled the flight and canceled our bookings. We had to start all over and were able to find new air on Delta that was only $100 more per/person. I felt luck that was all it was. I'll be crossing my finger until Feb that this new flight doesn't get canceled as well.

Ooohh and the price of our resort double in the last week as well.

I share in your concern. I am most concerned about our family that has not booked yet. So far it's just my mom and dean's aunt & uncle. I know that our siblings and dean's parents will book, but I am just thinking about how the prices will affect them when they do end up booking sad.gif

I agree with all of you! I was going to start this thread myself yesterday, but I knew I'd start crying if I did! It's crazy! I know many of our guests that were planning to come will not be able to afford it now. After a long cry (when I got home from work), I had to remind myself that the most important people will be there, me and my honey! Even though this whole wedding planning is great (at times), what I'm looking forward the most is seeing him waiting for me at the altar. I don't want to take away from that day by stressing on things i have NO control over.

i am gonna be the oddball out here and tell you all that i dont give a flying censored.gif about the rising airfare prices. we warned our guests well in advance that they needed to at least book their airfare ASAP if they knew they were coming, because prices were going to go up significantly. a few weeks ago, we also updated our website urging anyone who hasnt booked their flight to do so right away. most everyone who is coming has a flight booked already, so i really must say that anyone else who hasnt booked theirs yet and finds out they cant afford to come because they waited too long.... i just dont care. why should i worry about it? those who really truly cared about being there booked their shit early. why spend my time and energy stressing about who wont make it because they were too lazy to book their airfare back when it was affordable. IMHO, i just have too many other things to dedicate my time and energy to than worrying about the airfare prices at this point. we are less than 90 days away from the wedding and i am ok with the amount of guests who i know have already booked versus the ones i know still havent gotten airfare.

Thank you Maura, you are not the only one. I have not looked once at the airfares. I can not stress over this. We have told our guests it would be best to book ASAP that is all I can do, I can not hold their hands all the way to the TA. Its their money. If they cant spend the time to figure this out and book it then oh well. All I know is the two most important people will be at my wedding (my FI and me, ha). Anyone else who can join great! Our guests hear and read the same news we do.

I completely agree, I have babysat my guests through the entire process from finding good room deals, to helping everyone book their rooms, to reminding them to pay for the rooms, then to remind everyone to book airfare before all the good flights are full. Now last week I sent everyone an email telling them how much the prices have gone up since we booked our airfare a few months ago. I think I have done enough (too much actually, I feel like everyone's mother, we have a lot of single guys going and they're not good at the whole planning thing yet). If they can't go, well, it just sucks to be them. My parents and his parents are done, that's all the really matters, everyone else is just a bonus.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
