That was actually my attempt at sarcastic humor. Donaation cards are what you get in mailings from charities asking for donations, They aren't wedding paraphenalia...or not that I know of....lol.

In Holland most people marries after living together for several years, meaning that even though people is already settled, with own house, cars, etc. the couple pay for the wedding in its total, rarely any help from the parents. So it's pretty common to give money as a gift! On the invitations you could either get an envelope to put the money on or just a card with the bank number to transfer the money to.

It is very normal! Actually in places like in Spain some people expects that guests pay for their own dinner in gifts of course. So if the reception costs 80EURO per person then you are expected to bring a present (or money or transfer the money to the couple's account) for at least 80 euro, so if you go with a family of 4 .. well you know the gift you have to bring.

To bring a gift on weddings such as a vase, blenders, etc. are kind of useless here in NL, most couples already have all that so they prefer money to spend on theri honeymoon for example :)

Money as a gift is the most normal gift here in Holland so i guess is just matter of culture :)

I think it is tacky to write it on the invite, BUT I do understand that you can already own the traditional stuff so why not ask for money!  We have lived together for 5+ years.  I don't need a blender, but I do need to remodel the bathroom and kitchen.  I know that I can register at home depot, but wouldn't it be wierd for my guests to show up with countertops?  or a medicine cabinet?

I just don't like how people don't like to acknowledge that, yes, people need money.  I actually think that gift cards are tackier than cash.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
