FI REALLY irritates me sometimes!

Recommended Posts

UGH! OK....

So about a month or so ago, I was freaking out about the resorts photog and I wanted to bring one from home. FI was annoyed that I even suggested it, part of the reson we're going to Mexico is to save money. Ok, so anyway, I've seen photo of other Moon Palace brides on here and I am comfortable using their photog.

So now the topic of a DJ comes up. I was thinking of just renting the speaker system from the resort and using an ipod, FI wanted to use a DJ beacuse there's less stress and suff like that. Ok, we can get one through the resort for about $400 (for 4 hours I think)...not too bad.

Then he tells me a guy he works with DJ's on the side (not someone invited to the wedding) and he wants to offer to pay for his and his wife's trip if he does the music. I tell FI ok, but ask him to wait for me to look up the average price of a wedding DJ here. FI says ok. Calls me back about 20 minutes later and tells me he spoke to the guy and asked what his average price is for a wedding ($1400) and then explains that we're getting married in Mexico and then a month or two later will have an at home reception and if he's interested, we'll pay for his trip (and his wife) if he DJ's for us. The guy is interested and as long as he's free that weekend he'll come.

The room will come to about $1350 for 3 nights and then airfair....so we'll assume about $2350 total for he and his wife. I didn't think that would be too bad and am ok with it considering we'll probably have a 2 hr coctail hr and a 4hour reception in Mexico and then an average 4 hr reception here.

I guess it just bugs me that when it came to Photog FI couldn't believe I'd consider brining someone from home, and pics are forever. Now he wants to bring a DJ from home for a couple of hours of music.....

Ok, vent over...

They might charge us to rent equipment, but he also has stuff he can bring.

The only reason we said and his wife is because it's a $40 difference per night for the room, so it's $120 more for her. I think we might tell him he has to cover her airfair.

He still needs to make sure he's open that weekend. No we haven't heard him before, but I know other coworkers of FI have used him, and last year he did a wedding in the Bahamas.

Once he tells us he's free that weekend, we'll sit down with him and iron out details (ie: what we're paying for and what he's doing for us). If he doesn't do both events (Mexico and here) for the cost of the trip then it's definatley not worth it for us.

That's insane. The DJ is so much less important than a photog in my opinion. We just used an ipod and trust me, it was not stressful. My WC literally pressed play and we never even thought about music there after.

I would NEVER pay that much for a DJ. I think it's overpriced as it is. Let me tell you though, my hubby throws events for his job. He has an excellent DJ for some of the events he does (the dj works for a local station) and he pays him $500 for the event and he brings programs to play both music and video. It's quite an elaborate set up.

If the DJ says he charges $1400 per wedding, I think whoever is paying that is getting torn a new hole. That's ridiculously expensive and so not worth the money.

I agree that a DJ is 100% less important than a Photog!! That's what ticked me off in the first place.

I have to go find FSIL's receipts and see what she paid. She got married this past August and gave me all her vendor info (when we were planning a full wedding here).

Prices in NYC are super high and they get even higher when you add the word "Wedding".

It is definatelly something I'm going to look into.

Well of course, but your not getting married in NY for that very reason right? LOL- your FI definitely missed the mark on that one. shitfan.gif

I hope it works out because at first, we agonized over the whole DJ issue too- granted it was like only $500 for us to get one. Anyways, we decided on an ipod (mostly I did- lol) and it worked out great. I added fire dancers instead which the hubby didn't want. In the end, he confessed that I knew best. He loved the fire dancers and agreed having a dj do a mix for us was the best idea.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
