I am having the hardest time deciding on a date, and am now considering Memorial Day weekend 2009. Since flights aren't available for then yet, I can't tell how much they hike up the prices from the US to Cancun over busy holiday weekends like Memorial Day. Does anyone know if its really that much more expensive to travel then? Do room rates in Cancun go up then too? Its such a toss up because if we do it over Memorial Day weekend then everyone has an extra day off to stay, but then again if flights are a lot more expensive, it may not be worth it. Are Mexican hotels/resorts as busy as American ones during Memorial Day weekend? Any ideas or advice??

    Thanks!

fsil had her wedding during memorial day weekend 2006. flights were slightly higher but not bad. but it was really nice for the people that were just coming for the weekend they got an extra day. And a lot of people did go because of it. I think the room rates were the same. I went for the week so i don't know how the airport was on the trip in, but on the way home, it was really crowded but not too bad. No one complained about it.

We're not getting married in Mexico, but we chose Memorial Day weekend for that extra day off. People seem to be happy about it and no one has questioned if flights are higher that weekend because of the holiday. I say go for it!

I love going to weddings on Memorial day weekend, or Labor day weekend.
It's so nice to have that extra day off. Even if the tix are slightly more, it probably won't effect people's decisions.

Ok. So I think Memorial Day might be a really good option. Now I just have to decide between Saturday (May 23rd) or Sunday (may 24). I'm kind of leaning towards Sunday because that way people will really only have to take one day off work: Friday. Then the rehearsal will be Saturday, the wedding Sunday, and people will fly back on Memorial Day Monday. Now I'm just waiting to hear back if I can get the venue I want on either of those days!!

If you do decide to go with a holiday weekend, your guests will need to book early! About 2 months ago I tried to get us seats for this Memorial Day for FBIL's wedding and the cheap seats on Southwest were already sold out. For us to fly Friday and Monday, it was over $150 pp difference! Also with the hotel lots of people will probably have the same idea, so again you will need to book as quickly as possible.

I agree. We chose Prez day next year becuase eceryone will already have the extra day to take off of work. ANd anyone that really wants to come to the wedding will come even if the price is slightly higher I personally would...

And who doesn;t love to have plans- a wedding at that!- for a holiday weekend!!!

hate to be debbie downer here but... last year i declined a wedding invite out of town that was over memorial day weekend for a couple i was friends with in college. i have a stressful job and did not want to spend my one extra day off traveling and then return exhausted. just MHO, dont expect everyone to be gung ho about a holiday weekend wedding, because i certainly wasnt!

I"m a 4th of July weekend bride and the flight prices are pretty much the same as any normal time (unless you wait to book right before). You should be fine :)
                  Congrats!

I'm getting married next Memorial Day weekend. We chose Sunday the 24th so that people could fly down on Sat. and fly back on Mon. if they had to without missing a day of work... Or if they choose to stay longer they'll have a "bonus" day.

We had 24 people attend our wedding in Las Caletas, Mexico on May 24th, 2009!

We all stayed at The Marriott in P.V., and Honeymooned at The Royal Plantation in Ochos Rios, Jamaica!
