Dreams Cancun Wedding....Need help desperately!!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok... This is going to sound REALLY stupid but I have NO idea how to plan my wedding. I have never been anywhere, my FI has been to Cancun 1 time, never anywhere else so yeah, not big travelers. So, we decided we would like to go away to get married and after talking to our travel agent we have decided on Dreams Cancun (I think!!!). Only about 10 people going, none of which are helping much. Rates aren't out yet for 2008 so no date planned. We have no idea of the cost. We aren't planning an elaborate wedding but somewhat simple, inexpensive. I just need some advice. I don't know where to go and what to do. How do I pick a date when I don't know flights or costs or anythinghuh.gif How do you get flowers ordered and picked out as well as photographers?? How do you decide anything??!!!! This is what we both want but I am overwhelmed and frustrated and don't know what to do. You all seem to know exactly what you want, when you are doing everything and where to go for it all. I guess I feel since we don't have a lot of money since we are paying for this all ourselves that it is harder. I am very sorry for the long post. I appreciate any advice!! Thanks for your help and letting me vent!!

Hi Andrea!

believe me, we understand your frustration, we've all been there.

I am getting married at dreams cancun in october. The first thing you need to do is decide on your location & date, you can't really book anything else until then.

Also, have you looked at the wedding packages dreams offers to see if one of those will fit your needs.

I totally understand about paying for everything yourself and being on a budget, that's exactly our situation.

As for airfare that fluctuates, but your TA should be able to give you a rough idea of airfare so that you know if its in your price range and also be able to tell you when the best time to purchase your airfare is too.

Hopefully this will at least help a little, feel free to ask me any questions and I'd be happy to help!

Hi Andrea,

Congratulations on your engagement! smile159.gif I too am getting married and again, we all understand you frustration. I have yet to start planning my wedding but I have an idea of where I want to have it. Your best bet is to read the threads on this forum and you'll get really good advise. The girls here are great! I went from wanting a dw to getting so frustrated to thinking I was just going to have a traditional wedding here in Chicago. In the end, I was convinced to have a dw when I read the really good advise everyone has to offerl. You can find info from hotel reviews to stds to photographers. If you type key words into the search tab, you will find many threads on the subject you are looking for. It may seem crazy at first but hang in there, it will all fall into place!

Hi Andrea,

really once you have your location (Dreams Cancun is great) booked and your date set, everything else becomes a bit easier. The Dreams Cancun onsite Wedding Cordinator should be able to help you pick everything from flowers to reception location etc.... There are a few Dreams Cancun brides around here that can also help you out. Dont worry to much you have over a year and this forum alone will be of great help to you!

Hi Andrea!

Welcome! After 6 months of trying to decide on a destination wedding, we fianlly decided to reserve October 7th at Dreams in Cancun! I promise, this is the hardest part of the whole thing! Since you have so long, I would advise you select a date and then everything else falls into place! (after tons of researching!) Once you do this, the rest is the fun part! The girls on this board are awesome, along with Dreams.....I have only been a member on this board for about 2 weeks or so...and it has been very helpful! Just grab a pad of paper and start jotting things down as you are researching! Then that way, you can gather your thoughts....

Good Luck, and please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with!!!

I really don't know what I would do without you girls!!! I posted 3 times last night because I was so overwhelmed and today I feel better after reading more posts. I was trying to decide between Cabo and Cancun (dreams) but I am pretty sure we are going to stick with Cancun. I am going to get ahold of the coordinator and start getting things planned. Your girls are awesome...thanks so much!!

Do not feel stressed this is all part of the process of being overwhelmed. When I first joined I was so nervous I thought I was going to puke! Now I am calm and I have realized that you just have to take everything one day at a time. Also I don't know if this helps you or not, but I booked my wedding for July 4, 2008 at Dreams (cabo) and I also do not know rates. I am just planning other stuff little by little. I would set a date and get a location first, and then I would start working on looking for a photographer since those get booked up fast. Once you are done with that you can work on your wedding website (if you want one) and your monograms and Save the dates (if you are planning on doing either of those) and you can read through the threads to start getting an idea for what types of stuff you would like to have at your wedding. You will be so busy with all that stuff that before you know it, the rates will be out. Good luck with everything and let us know how we can help you.

Hi! I am also a Dreams Cancun bride! I think! I am still waiting for the contract from Claudia.

What I did was decide on the location. I think that is the most critical. I looked in many places. I chose Dreams CAncun because I love the location of the wedding gazebo, they have a lot of experience with weddings, close to nightlife for the groomsmen, kid friendly for the nephews. If we did not have children in the party there are other resorts I would have chosen perhaps like Excellence, Hideaway Playacar, El Dorado, etc. I would have gone to Cabo also but a swimmable beach is very important to our family.

After location, next would be photographer. I actually chose my wedding date based on the availability of my photographer. So those three things are critical for me. And that is still where I am at right now.

Don't worry, like everyone else has said in this forum, it should all come together!

Take care. If there is anything I can do to help let me know!

WARNING, OCTOBER WEDDINGS: I am getting married at Dreams Cancun in 11 days! However, I noticed several people scheduled their weddings for October! Big mistake. I've been to Cancun 2 times in the past 2 years. The first was in Feb, the second in October. We didn't think much of the hurricane season. Yep, that's when the biggest, slowest, longest, hurricane Wilma hit. We had already had our vacation, but were stranded in a technology school sleeping on a tile floor because we had to be evacuated. We stayed there for 3 nights/4 days and an extra 2 days after the hurricane ended. While we were there, a couple had supposed have gotten married there. They missed their wedding and all their guests had to spend their vacation in the "camp". I'm only telling you this because we had originally planned our wedding for Oct, but after being in the hurricane for last Oct, we weren't going to chance it. Do yourself and your guests a favor, hurricanes have struck there in that season the last two years, you can almost bet on it for next October. IT doesn't matter if you have to change the invities -= it'll be worth it. Non-hurricane season (a little more expensive) is Jan - July I believe. Our wedding is costing $3,000 at dreams, our 11 night trip is $6400. Yes, pricey but believe me, you don't want to get stuck in that situation.

Dreams Tulum is very nice. That's actually where we were for the hurricane - only it was still Sunscape and in the process of remodeling for Dreams. It has a nice beach, very private, great people, nice rooms, and a small cute indoor chapel. You would love it there. They had a pool and lagoon, now I believe they added another pool. We are hopping down there for the honeymoon. Will post pics upon return.

For anyone who is getting married in Dreams Cancun, they also offer the option of the terrace setting with tiki torches. That's what we are going with. I assume there will be room to dance there. It has the same effect of being on the beach, with sand close by.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
