Bridesmaid help!!

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new here and I am getting married on june 21, 2008. I have a little dilemma with 2 of my bridesmaids. About 6 months ago we ordered their dresses. They had to put 1/2 the deposit down ($80) and then they would have to pay the second half when the dresses came in. Well in March, one bridesmaid told me that she couldn't go because she found out she was pregnant. Then two weeks after that a second one told me that she had personal issues and couldn't go. Well, they both said that they would still pay for the dresses even though they weren't going. I sent out an email last week letting everyone know the dresses are here. Well, I haven't heard anything from those two. How should I approach them? I just can't afford to pay for their dresses on top of everything else. Any advice woiuld be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Shanna

Wow! How awful for you! Do you have replacement bridesmaids that might be able to fit into one of them? Would you fit in one? If not, I would follow up with a phone call. "Your beautiful 'occassion' dresses are here now! We're sad you can't wear them in our wedding, but I can't wait to see you in them! When should we get together to swap out the dresses so I can pay the store? I hope we can do it over coffee or dinner!"

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, what a bad situation. I agree that you should follow up with a phone call and just let them know what you told us - that the dresses are here, you can't afford them and you need them to pay what they previously agreed to. Let us know what happens!

So, after saying they would pay for it, they're going back on their word?

It's not so much that they're going back on their word, it's just that they are not saying anything which I think is worse. I'm going to call them tomorrow and I'll keep everyone updated on what happens. Thanks for the advice.

We're date twins! Moran is also getting married the 21st, so we're triplets!

Anyway, I've had lots of bridesmaid problems here recently and the best approach is to be honest. Are you having an AHR? If so, you could ask the girls to wear the dresses there. They could also always try to sell them on e-bay. They made the commitment so now they need to honor it. (That is my new mantra)

Call them up personally and tell them about the dresses.

They said they would pay so they probably will.

If those sizes fit other guests attending, maybe they can wear them as your maids.

If not, don't stress too much. Everything does happen for a reason.

One of my bridesmaids told me she cannot make it a month ago.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
