We just retured and we have a paper from the resort stating that we got married and the judges name. But, it stated we could we waiting up to 4 months for the actual license. Is that TRUE?

This is what I read on the Riu wedding website..."For Civil weddings: The marriage certificate will be given to the couple five to six months after wedding´s day."

So does this mean you can not change your name or really be "married" until you have that lience in your hands in the states?

Yep, I know of people who it took closer to 9-months. That's why we decided to do the legal stuff here beforehand and a symbolic ceremony in the DR.

                Good Luck!

Election for Dominican president is on way right now in DR, the same office taking care about wedding legal paper is the one handling the elections all around country. By the moment they take more time for weddings certificate.
I´m sure in future the time will be short for release papers.

I know that they have started to send out licenses quicker.

Some brides that got married last november got them in about April but other that have been married in Jan/Feb got theirs within a month or two. I think that when they had a lot of trouble with someone running off with the money and not doing what they had to do to get the certificates issues, these are the ones that seemed to take the longest.

The more recent brides appear to be getting them quicker. If i'm wrong please correct me, this is only what i have heard and sumised (sp) on other boards.
