Has anyone not had an open bar at their reception in the DR? THe cost is crazy expensive at my resort and although I would love to do it we just can't afford it. We are renting a suite to have our reception in and we were thinking of buying bottles from duty free or gift shop and just bringing them up there with us. It would be almost $3000.00 for an open bar for 3 hrs and buying our own bottles we could buy a ton of it for like $500. Does this seem tacky? Has anyone else ever done this?

I'm getting married at the Majestic Colonial. Amazing resort for everything but the open bar the cheapest option is $15/hr/person for the first hour and $7/hr/person for every hour after that plus $15/hr for a bartender and taxes and such so with 60 people it almost $3000.00!

I don't think it's tacky. Many people have wine & beer bars only. I would just make sure this is allowed. Do you intend for them to serve it? There is often a corking fee if you want them to serve your alcohol. And a lot of places I've seen do not allow outside liquor to be brought it.

Omgosh, chica. That is nuts! We were going to go with the Majestic at first but decided against it. I say, buy the alcohol at the duty free. Maybe you can just pay the bartender to serve for you because their charge fees are outrageous!!!

We are probably just going to buy it from the gift shop and take it up there. We will get guests to serve themselves. I don't see how they wouldn't allow it I am renting the suite for 24hrs so I think I can do whatever I want in it. I was just thinking of getting each of the wedding party to come with me and we will each buy so much in case they only allow so many bottles per person.

That is ridiculous. I honestly don't understand why there is a charge at all for food or drinks at any of the AI Resorts! It really blows my mind. But, in the end I guess it is cheaper than having a wedding at home.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
