Calling all Plus Sized Brides...

Recommended Posts

it's not just the shop, it's the cut of the dress! i am disproportionately pear shaped (my hips are about 15 inches bigger than my waist!) ... in an a-line dress i wear close to my everyday size, but if i were to choose a straight or form-fitting skirt (not that i ever would!), i would probably need about 10 sizes bigger.

i haven't dress shopped anywhere but online so far, and feel that the best cut for my body would be an A-line dress with an off-the shoulder or portrait neckline (something to widen my shoulders as i have none, and to balance my big ol' hips). of course i love all the slinky numbers and the dropped waists and trumpet skirts, but i need to be realistic ... for me, they just wouldn't work ... not even if i dropped 100 pounds as my body just isn't shaped that way. best advice ever is to "know your body!"

that said, my "fact-finding mission" at david's needs to happen! i need to see a dress actually ON me sometime soon!

I ended up making my own. I took a Tadashi silk chiffon knee length dress and bought two of them (second one on sale) and cut off the bottom of the second (that was a size 16) and had it sewn on to the other. This particular dress went up to an 18 (18 was a special order though).

Uh dunno...I wear an 18-20 in womens sizes though I am 6ft tall. That and I am 271 lbs. (down 22 lbs so far...hope to lose some more before the wedding...dress is really tight right now) 44 E bust - 44 waist - 52 hips. Sounds plus sized to me.

thanks! I posted the most flattering pic I have of me in it...you should see the back view though (not pretty!). I've dropped 22 lbs so far...I'd like to drop more before the wedding and slim down my arms and stomach. I always try to avoid showing my arms but with a wedding dress that is kind of hard to avoid. Plus it will be hot so even though I have found some bolero jackets that might work it would be too warm for them. I don't really feel comfortable in it yet...it is tighter than I'd like even with the weight lost so far. I don't like a-line on me as I think it makes me look larger and I didn't want a traditional looking dress so it was hard finding something. Now if I could wear black I'd have a multitude of dress options but I think my mom would have a heart attack! White just seems to show everything. I'm remembering why I have so little of it in my closet.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
