Yes, I'm super exicted!!! I'm not freaking out, I'm not nervous, just looking forward to getting to Cancun already! I leave Tuesday. I have already finished packing my decor and OOT bag goodies. I started packing my clothes last night, so I'll probably be done by today. I wanted to finish soon because I'm getting married legally on Friday, then Saturday I'm having my bridal shower, and I need to start moving my stuff into my FI's house this weekend, so I wanted to have everything done ASAP so I wouldn't be stressing.

I will give you all the info about the hotel and wedding when I return. To be honest, I was stressing earlier this week because the WC, Pamela, has not really been on top of things. She didn't reserve the correct amount of people for dinner after I had already confirmed my guest count 3 times and just other little things like that. But, I'm sure once I'm there things will be fine with her.

How's your planning going?

Well, Im sure you can get the dinner reservations work out with Pamela when you get there. I think I'll just keep my expectations low and assume I'll get everything straightened out when I get there. I still haven't heard back as to if the resort offers wedding insurance so I think I'm just going to get some through WedSafe.com

Other than that, I just sent out all the save-the-dates and I booked Vanessa Vargas for the wedding pictures. I'm going this weekend to a bridal show in DC to get some ideas for colors and attire and all that. Fun stuff!

Sounds like you have a lot going on coming up! Good luck with everything and I can't wait to hear how everything went!

Hi ladies, I am a newbie to this forum and found this thread for Riu brides.

First of all, congrats Mrs. Martin! And congrats amdecker for picking a resort. Thanks JennyK for posting pics.

I am glad to see that not everyone is getting married at Dreams! I have seriously been looking into the Riu and it seems like a place I would like to get married. I'm looking more into RC over RPLA only because we will probably have some guests that bring their children.

Is everyone getting legally married in the U.S. before they head to Mexico? I hear it gets kind of complicated when it comes to Civil Weddings in Mexico.

Also, have you had good experiences with the wedding coordinators so far? I plan on getting in touch with the Riu Cancun wedding coordinator within the next few days.

Aww man, I wrote this whole long thing and I didn't post, so I guess I'll try to remember what I just wrote frown.gif

So GinalynL,

I think I was sold on RPLA from the pictures and because I wanted to do a wedding on the beach. Plus I have seen a RIU resort before and they are just gorgeous. I agree that RC does have a kids play area so if you have kids coming, that would work out well. I figure since you get access to all 3 resorts, you can get the best of all of them. Dreams was on my list too, but I wasn't sold from the comments on the beach wedding.

I am getting legally married in the U.S. rather than Cancun. At most resorts it isn't that much more to do a civil ceremony (about $300) but I just didn't want to deal with it. I do know RPLA has a FAQ section on their website that explains what they do for civil ceremonies.

I haven't really asked my WC anything yet, but I heard from other people on this website that she is good. I will certainly post information as I get it. Mrs. Martin is at RPLA now for her wedding so I'm sure she will give us the scoop when she gets back! I wish I was in Cancun right now!

So good luck picking a resort and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Yeah Arlington isn't bad as far as nightlife goes!

We won't be having many kids at our wedding (probably 3 max). I did not know that if you stay at a Riu that you would have access to all the other Riu resorts. That way the adults with kids could take them over to RC if we picked RPLA. Oh decisions decisions!

It's funny because my fiance and I were all excited about the RC based on their website. But then I showed him the pictures that were posted by JennyK and he got excited about RPLA over RC. The cocktail hour locations looked awesome. Will you be having a cocktail hour? I wonder if we could turn a cocktail hour into cocktail "hours" and just have heavy hor douvres after the ceremony.

My wedding seems so far away but I just got back from my first experience trying on dresses. So fun!!

Hello ladies...

I'm joining the ranks of Riu brides :) We've looked and looked - our first choice was Moon palace untill we found RPLA, but then after a few discussions with my family and FI - we're picking RPLA! yeeehaaaaaa!

I'm rather excited and hoping to book the wedding date for October of next year. The hotel photos look amazing! Don't laugh but my very first requirement was for the resort to have an infinity pool and they do smile29.gif

Oh and we're having a reeeeaaaally small wedding - 8 ppl, including 2 kids.

We're looking at photographers and also need to figure something out for music. On the website they mention "trio" as part of optional services. Would either of you happen to know what instruments the trio includeshuh.gif I think i'd be happy with just a single guitarist... or a trio of guitars... Seems very romantic to me.

All other details TBD :)

Either way - it feels good to almost be ready to book!

Look forward to your details.

-L

Hello L,

Congrats on finding a resort. Infinity pools are definitely good criteria to havecheesy.gif

My wedding isn't going to be until January 2010 and unfortunately the earliest I will be able to book my wedding will be March 2009 (according to the Riu rep that emailed me back) doh.gif I am the type of person who wants everything planned asap so I'm just going to have to be patient. I will definitely have lots of ideas though by the time I get to book.

I am not sure what the trio has. Maybe 3 guitars, maybe other strings like violin, cello, or something else. I am not sure but if you find out definitely let us know!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
