Overstock.com e-ring?

I agree with some of the previous post. I don't know anything about Philly, so I can't recommend a place...but looking in the diamond district is a great place to start.

 

I work in the industry and can give you guys all a great place to buy jewelry...of any kind...traveling gem shows. Hands down my fav place to get good stuff. Not only can you get finished jewelry, but they sell things separately as well. You can buy your setting from one booth, your stones from another, and then take them to the jeweler sitting in another booth and watch him set them in front of you. You can also bargain with almost all vendors. The majority of the vendors are wholesalers from overseas so by buying this way you are cutting out a few “middlemen†and saving yourself $$. Make sure to do your homework before going and know your 3 C’s and some prices for styles you are looking for. This is one I frequent is Seattle. It's here this weekend, but it's just the bead show and not the full gem show:

Another place I frequently buy stuff is auctions. A good auction house will have an appraisal with a piece of fine jewelry so you will know the cut, clarity, etc. However auctions can be hit or miss…it all depends on the crowds. I have seen jewelry worth thousands of dollars sell for a few hundred…and other times seen a piece of rhinestone costume jewelry sell for close to $1000…crazy. The auction houses here is Seattle post their catalogs online so you can see what is for sale and decide if you want to go or not before leaving the house. My engagement ring came from an auction house and if you knew what we paid for it…you’d flip.

 

So I guess I’m trying to say…think outside the box and walk away from the mall to save money.

I've bought jewelery before from Overstock (mostly Movado watches) and everything on there is real and they are reputable and have excellent shipping and return policies. My friend works for 2(x)ist (a men's underwear company) and they sell a lot of their stuff to them so I know the stuff on there is real.

 

Secondly, if you want a quality diamond then you should take your time picking out one that is right for you. But if you love that ring (which btw I think is beautiful) then I say go for it. It is pretty affordable and the important thing is that you love it and will be happy to wear it. Personally I have never cared for name brand jewelery or how expensive, etc. I know you love Lawrence and would be just as happy wearing a Ring-pop if it meant you guys could be happily married. So if this is the ring you want, then get this ring. Don't let silly things like SI-VVSI deter you from getting something you love.

 

I'm with Morgan, inexpensive doesn't necessarily mean that its a bad quality. There a lot of beautiful things you can buy that don't have to break the bank.

Catherine I say get the ring of your choice don't worry about the clarity. My ring has a bit of yellow in it, not that much and Erik kind of felt sad and worried about it but it was what he could afford at the time. I love it...I think you've seen it.

This is exactly the right attitude to have!

While I agree that is a great attitude to have...you still have to be aware that inclusions can weaken a stone. Inclusions can be cracks, fissures, etc. There are 15 types of internal flaws and 9 types of external flaws...and depending on what type of flaw and where it is located...it can greatly weaken a stone. The diamonds in that ring are of a size that this is unlikely to happen, but it is still something to think about.

People pay a fortune for canary diamonds!

My ring has a tinge of green in bright sunlight. Indoors its flawless, but in the sun there is a slight green color if you tilt it just right. It's a moissanite, and that is the main flaw with them. But, it was only $700 for a beautiful ring. I'm just not a girl that wants thousands on my hand. I set a limit at $500 & started looking to see what that would get. $500 will buy amazing sapphire rings. Then i found moissanite which was perfect for me. It's lab created & I like buying lab created. I had to talk Mike in to not buying me an expensive ring. He didn't want to feel cheap, but now he is so proud of my ring. It's so beautiful & was such a great deal.

But, I do worry about all the small stones in that ring. I personally don't want a high maintence ring I have to get inspected all the time. My friends with a rings with lots of stones are always dealing with them falling out. So I would worry about the stones being set well.

Ilike the ring and because I mentioned the I3 he will not consider it. He has researched it. My main concern is to give him an idea of my liking.
