Bringing your ring?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm getting married in the Mayan Riviera this August, and I've had a couple guests say things to me such as "you're not bringing your ring are you?" Is this something I should be concerned about? I had wanted to have our bands for the ceremony, but am not sure now if this is an unsafe move. Can anyone help?

Well from what I heard Mexico has had problems with the cleaning staff stealing things. So just tip them and they tend to leave stuff alone. However I plan on assigning someone to "ring bodyguard" for our trip, a person that doesn't let our wedding bands out of their sight... Just to be on the safe side. I've also heard of people putting their wedding rings in a pair of socks because it's not a place someone would expect to look.

The Riu resorts have in-room safes for you to use for just that type of reason. In general, just use the same precautions as you would at a hotel in the US. The people working and living in Mexico are wonderful, kind, generous people. You get a few bad apples here and there, but those are the exception.

On my trips to Cancun and the Riviera Maya I have always brought thousands of dollars worth of photo equipment with me and have never had a problem. I use locks on my bags and put money, passport and valuables in the safe. It might be a good idea to contact the resort to see what else they might be able to do for safekeeping of the rings as well.

I am putting my engagement ring in the safe deposit box here in the states and just bringing the wedding bands to Costa Rica. I figured I am going to be doing a lot of outdoor activities and I would DIE if I lost it. I am pretty sure if you just out your valuables in the safe you should be fine.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I remember reading a couple of reviews on tripadvisor in which people said their valuables were stolen from the safe. (I think it was money). They said it was obvious someone from the hotel staff used a card to come into the room and was somehow able to hack into their safe. I can't remember what resort it was but I will see if I can find the review. Sorry to sound like a bitch, I'm just trying to look out for everybody.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
