Amy (Martin) that church is stunning! I am so jealous! I want to get married in a pretty Mexican church like that. So nice! Btw I met with my priest this weekend and we have to do two weekend retreats (in leiu of pre-canor) and the total cost will be $600. Well actually I don't think that includes the two weekend retreat costs. Can you believe how expensive it is? Arrrgh!

OMG!!! I never even thought of those costs!!! That is rediculous! Uggh.. you would think the church would offer these services for free! No wonder its a sin not to be married by the church, they wouldn't be able to make their money!

Seriously! I mean you would think that they would be begging people to get married in the Catholic Church with all the scandals and the decline in the church's membership. But no, as usual they have to make everything as time consuming and costly as possible. I swear I am going to go bankrupt from this wedding! Do you have to get a blessing from your priest in order to marry in the PV church? Or do they just take your money and roll with it? Is the service in spanish or english? offtopic2.gif

I feel your pain!!!!! We've been going through this same thing out here in CA. One church wanted us to take classes every weekend for 6 months for about $500, and if we didn't pass the written test we would have to start over!! Talk about turning us off to the whole idea!! My FI isn't Catholic and I would just as soon go to the courthouse if it weren't for the tradition thing as someone else mentioned. I want to make this as pleasant as possible for both of us!!

I finally got a hold of a few churches here in L.A. that offer a one day class, 8 hours on a Saturday for $70 (cash only, they made sure to tell me that!!). Maybe you can find something like that where you are? I got the info from the diocese office of family life, it's worth checking into. $600 is a lot rant.gif

Ohhh, what church is this? I'm from L.A., Culver City to be exact. I haven't even started looking into this. I guess I'm trying to avoid this as long as possible.

St. Clement's in Santa Monica does it. There is also one in Hermosa Beach but I foget the name. Those are probably the closest to you.

The lady at the diocese office said there are basically classes every weekend somewhere. She named me a bunch of cities and dates, from Pomona to Long Beach and said to book directly with the church.

I need to get on it too and book something before its too late!! I've been avoiding it too, my mother got me going since it is so important to her. I don't have the phone number on me, but if you can't find the number to the diocese of L.A. let me know, I'll dig it out for ya. Good luck, glad I'm not alone in dreading this, LOL!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
