To OOT or not to OOT??

Recommended Posts

So... I've decided to just go with travel mugs and fill them with stuff. I got 53 travel mugs from discountmugs.com for about $180. We didn't get them imprinted, since that would have added significantly to the cost. They seem semi-stackable, so that will help with the baggage. We will probably spend another $50-$100 filling them with first-aid items, tissues, and whatever else we can stuff in there, and a little welcome note. I think our guests will find the mugs really handy because I've read that our AI uses the small disposable cups, and all the reviews on tripadvisor say to bring your own cup.

I feel soooo much better about this decision now because I saved some money by not buying tote bags. And I know I would have ended up spending waaaay more trying to fill the whole bag. At least now, I know my costs are capped at about $300 (hopefully, it'll be less).

Thanks again to everyone for the advice.

Way to go on the travel mugs. Sidenote: I spent the evening with my parents and my Dad told me to put travel mugs in our OOT bags. I'm thinking that if my Dad knows about the the usefulness of travel mugs at resorts, and he hasn't even gone to one before, then it is a good bet that they will be well recieved.

We are doing OOT bags but my parents are footing some of the cost for them since they are also paying for the wedding package down there. We will each put a Welcome/Thank You note in the bags. My Mom has decided that she is going to make some beach totes to give to everyone. We are also going to do the travel mugs, but we are going to hand those out right before we leave to those that live in our town, and the rest will be handed out at the airport. The tote bags and other trinkets that we think would be useful will be handed out down there. We have people that have offered up luggage space for our stuff to haul down there as well, so I think we will be alright.

Some of the ideas for the OOT bags are:

-Immodium

-lip balm

-bath puff

-bath bombs (DIY project)

-aloe vera

-sticky notes (one per room)

-pen (one per room)

-tealights

-hand sanitizer

-and the beach tote my mom is making

In the travel mugs we are putting a pack of gum as well. We were going to do luggage tags, but the travel agent we booked through does them for everyone with their name and address on them.

I know this was a huge disagreement between my FI and I, I wanted to do them because I thought it would be a nice gesture, but as I keep picking up things for the bags the cost is soaring. I am definately starting to see me FI's point as it is a huge added expense, and most people coming to the DW wont know to expect them. I am glad I am doing them though, just wish it was a little cheaper...

We're planning on giving our guests a little mickey of rum ($3-4 in Cuba) and cigars as well as an undecided small wedding favour at the reception so I think I'm going to skip the OOT bags and just provide an extensive travel checklist to make sure everyone brings what they might need.

When we first started the planning - OOT bags was a must! Now, as we are rounding off the numbers, reality is hitting. Therefore we decided instead of doing bull staff, we will either get Yellow inprinted drawstring bags with Jamaican Flag and the date (instead of guests buying this at the resort for absurt amount of money), and just putting in after sun lotion Hawaiian Tropics and maybe another little something. From our travels with friends and family, we know they usually do not have the after sun lotions :) cause they use mine.

We will be doing favours though. Something little again - like a sea shell beer opener or a wine stopper. ...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
