reasons why a DW can be cheaper?

Recommended Posts

We knew we couldn't afford the wedding we would want at home, unless we waited a couple years and we also wanted to get the most bang for our buck, so like Janet said we are happier spending the money on a celebration that will allow us to spend several days with our guests vs. several hours.

We were sorta in the same boat, both myself and my hubbie come from large families who all live within a 3 hour radius and it would of been much more expensive to have a wedding at home then it was for us to spend a week away with 50 of our closest family and friends! We also knew we wanted to get married on a beach since we were engaged on one so when it came down to it....the beaches in Mexico were a lot nicer than our beaches at home!

I chose a DW because my family is SUPER opinionated and controlling that it would end up being their wedding instead of mine. I wanted to get away from it all and just make it about "US!" I love my family, but I wanted zero stress. Also Costa Rica is SUPER cheap, so we are saving a grip of money. Our DW will be under $10k and that is with the honeymoon included.

Like mentioned before, I could not justifyy spending the kind of money it costs today for an at-home wedding to wine and dine people I see once every 5 years (family that are not close but we would feel obligated to invite). We also would only have a few hours to spend with our guests and felt it would be over so fast.

With a DW, we can invite those most important to us and all spend a week together having a great time. I do not imagine we will have much over $10k into our DW. i would rather take the extra $$ we didnt spend on an at-home wedding and buy some property up north or something that we can enjoy for a long time!

HA! So true!! And they'll sneak in their cousins that weren't even invited!! I basically agree with everyone else. Unless you're in a small town where everyone knows and wants to help everyone (i.e. your neigbor is the baker, his sister is the florist) it is expensive in most places when you break down the costs (location/flowers/music/food/drink/photographer/chair rentals/canopy/etc.)

For me to do in here in Los Angeles what I am doing in Mexico would EASILY cost $40,000, and that's if I kept is short and sweet. I just went to a $50,000 wedding out here that had a good band, pretty flowers, and all that, but it was at a social club (read:auditorium) located between a Wendy's and a carpet store. You can't beat the ambiance of a DW no matter what country you choose!

Umm I recently went to a pretty nice wedding (nothing spectacular just the usual stuff) and the bride told me it cost her $180,000. I almost passed out. My other friend's wedding cost her over a million dollars (granted that was a spectacular extravaganza and she had over 650 guests). The average wedding here in the suburbs is like $80,000. And those weddings are usually friday night or sunday day. If you want sat night here you are looking at $250-$300 a plate (with bear minimums). I don't even want to talk about what it costs to get married in Manhattan because I will pass out.

oh my GOD i did not know that people (other than movie stars and billionaires) actually spent that much on a wedding! one of my friends had a $50,000 wedding which was awesome but i thought THAT was expensive - i had no idea! im hoping to get in around $10,000 including the honeymoon and a weeks stay plus i get to hang out with my closest friends and family (35-45 people coming, only a handful staying longer than 4 days). AND i dont have to spend the entire reception talking to people i havent seen for ten years. unfortunately for my friends, (but fortunately for me and my FI who are paying for the whole thing plus paying for some of my family to come shots.gif ), im spreading the cost out to my guests, who at this point in their lives have more money than we do (we've been in school FOREVER) so that we can still have a rockin party and they get an excuse for an awesome vacation with all of their friends as well and everyone is happy! THey are all super excited for a beach wedding cause we're the first ones to do it, too.

Oh I don't know people who have million dollar weddings either. This girl is Persian and her father owns an oil company. Her husband is very wealthy too. They are on a league all on their own. They got some famous Persian band from cali who cost $150,000. And their videographer (who happens to be her husband's family company) had the kinds of cameras they have on movie sets. It was ridiculous.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
