Alot of the new docking stations have a port for a microphone. Bose is one of the best, and I know that one of their docks definitely has it, but they have a couple different ones.

we went to a destination wedding on a beach (as part of a cruise) where there was no mic and I was really disappointed that we heard nothing of the ceremony. It was like we were only half experiencing the wedding because we were there and watching but yet we couldn't hear a thing.

That being said, 500$ is completely ridiculous so you should definitely look for an alternative.

The only kind of input that will work with a microphone is an input labled "mic" or "microphone". This will have the pre-amplifier built in. You can find this with a "karaoke" boombox, but normally there is no pre-amp, just a line in which will not work with a microphone.
so is there some sort of adapter that can be bought to make this work?
