Ever meet someone famous?

Very cool. It seems like a few of you have had brushes with greatness. I've had a couple more celebrity "walk bys" that I just remembered. When I was in college, I was sketching in the African art section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art when Jerry Garcia walked by me. Oh and a couple of months ago Jay and I were in a rest stop. I was in the gift shop getting something. I come out and Jay says to me...You were just in the gift shop with the lead singer of Phish. I had no idea.

I met Shania Twain (sp?) walking down the street in Vegas. My x and I had just gotten married and was walking to a concert and he recognized her and grabbed her arm...eeekkk...with security gaurds around her. He told her we just got married and asked if she would take a pic with us - she did. It was pretty cool. She's so flippin tiny! I think I burned that pic with all the others though....lol.

DH hangs out with Stackhouse (Mavs) all the time. He does his landscaping and he says he's one probably the coolest person he's ever met.

Oh and we met Pat Green (Texas country music singer) in Mexico, while we were there for our wedding. His cousin got married the day after us, so he and his family hung out with us in the pool for like 2 days while we were there. It was very exciting since I LOVE him!!! He even recognized DH & I when they were checking out of the hotel, and waved and yelled bye to us.

Most of the famous people I've met were when I was a teenager...

Rosie Martin from Treble Charger (met him twice....once after a concert and another time I'll tell you about in a second)

All of Sonic Youth - a friend of mine won a contest to meet & jam with Sonic Youth and he brought me along with him, and right before we were about to leave Rosie showed up...so that's how I met him a 2nd time

All of Goldfinger - me & my friends were in a coffee shop before a Goldfinger concert and the whole band walked in and sat down right next to us so we started shooting the shit they were all super nice and gave us autographs and whatever else...halfway through the concert I got hurt in the moshpit and was bleeding from my face (nice eh? LOL) and Charlie Paulsin (guitarist) noticed me being patched up right in front of the stage and yelled "HEY I KNOW HER" and pulled me up to sit on the side of the stage for the rest of the show...that was my 15 minutes of fame

I met Darcy Tucker from the Maple Leafs (hockey) at the Toronto Zoo after I turned around, not paying attention, and stepped on his foot. I almost died - I'm so in love with him LOL

Roddy Piper (wrestler) was sitting next to me in a restaurant in Myrtle Beach when I was a kid and gave me an autograph.

Oh and Pat Quinn (former head coach of the Leafs) was sitting next to me in Boston Pizza a few years ago.

Most of these people are Canadian and you've probably never heard of them LOL

I think that's all I've met?

In my phd program, I get to meet lots of famous scientists. Nobel prize winners & people whos name you learn in freshman biology. It's very exciting to me. I went to dinner with Matthew Meselson (Meselson Stahl experiement) & James Earl Jones was in the same restaurant. I was more excited that I was eating dinner with the guy who discovered how DNA replicates. Mike was so mad I didn't call him & tell him James Earl Jones was there. I don't know what he thought he would do. It's the kind of restaurant you have to have reservations for so he couldn't just pop in & get a table.

A few weeks ago I went to dinner with a noble prize winner

Karen your story is awesome, that's almost better than "meeting" him...a true fan moment, you know? Cool!

I met was Dave Winfield (Yankee) when I was like 5 and I got my picture in the newspaper with him at a signing...woohoo! I met Jaclyn Smith who was super nice and 10 minutes later I met Meryl Streep who was kind of mean and wouldn't give me an autograph (keep in mind I was like 10 so I was genuinely hurt LOL). I made small talk with Keenan Ivory Wayans at a taping of his talk show (the show didn't last long) and he was cordial.

Some of you may recall my crazy encounter with Daniel Baldwin...he thought I was in danger at this taco shop (he was totally on drugs) and was prepared to protect me...haha We ended up eating with him, he was actually a cool guy. I wrote a thread about it here awhile ago.

Those are probably the most famous. When I first moved to L.A. we met some Wu Tang Clan members at a concert and ended up hanging out with them for a few months while they were out here working on an album (gotta love being young...lol). The ones we hung with were exceptionally nice, looking back it was borderline strange how cool they were because at the time they were very popular and we weren't putting out - lmao! We used to go to the studio with them or go get the house keys from them at the studio and hang out at their spot until they got there. Either someone would cook or we would order food and talk music or watch cartoons haha. It was crazy listening to the album later and thinking "I was there when he wrote that" or whatever. It was a fun time.

A girlfriend of mine in college dated this A&R dude and she used to take me with her when he came to town from NY. Once we were swimming & Slick Rick arrived. I'm an old school hip-hop fan so that was huge to me. He and his wife came over and he was like "Hi, I'm Rick"....I wanted to say "No shit, you're wearing the freakin eye patch!" but I just said nice to meet you LOL Anyway, I met him, his wife, and Doug E. Fresh a few more times and they are really nice. The guy worked for Def Jam so he was always with artists like LL Cool J, DMX, Dru Hill, etc. Everyone was very nice & polite except for DMX who was as abrasive as you would think, hate to say it but it was true then. And he really talked like he raps, it was pretty funny :P

Oooh and once we were leaving their hotel and they were filming 90210 in the lobby...I was like 5 feet from Brandon & Dylan - they are short and skinny but really cute!

Okay last story, I was at Rick James' funeral (lol I know) and there were all kinds of celebrities around but I didn't "meet" them. Jamie Foxx, Charlie Murphy, Teena Marie, Ron Jeremy, Chaka Khan, etc. The funeral was 4 hours long and like a party, it was really fun.

I have met a few. Some of my favorites:

Jay Z - My FAVORITE rapper in college. When we met I kept telling him that he was my favorite rapper in college and he kept asking "what about now?"..."what about now." I'm not that into rap these days so technically I did not have a favorite rapper. It was a very funny conversation because I was also a little drunk

Jamie Foxx - We met him in Miami and I told him that he met a friend of mine in LA that he started calling pocahantes and it upswet her (not sure why). so he asked for my ohone and called her to sing her a song of apology. That was nice. And he gave a nother friend of mine a foot massage. (He's quite the ladies man....)

Aaliyah - met her at her record release for the last album she released before she died. She was sooo pretty and very sweet and soft spoken....

I saw Kelly Ripa at a reatuaranmt one nite and she and her husband are HOT. and they look nice.

I think I would love to meet Michelle Obama and OPRAH.

I used to work in post production and we edited videos for the Coen brothers and Bob Casale from Devo. The Coen brothers were shy, geeky boys, but really nice...Bob Casale brought all of us Devo's greatest hits CD's...

Oh and Kirsty Alley sat next to us at lunch one day (didn't meet her though)...all I can remember was that she was extremely loud...LOL.

Damn! Lots of people on there I would love to meet. Dave Winfield was my hero when I was a kid. I always pretended I was him when we played wiffle ball during the summer.

As for me... I have met a few.

MCA (Adam Yauch) from the Beastie Boys, met him when I was in a record store in NYC. I ended up spending the afternoon walking around to different record stores with him. He was an awesome guy.

Neil Diamond. Under dubious circumstances at a NYC party once.

Lots of indie and punk bands/musicians including Dicky Barrett (Mighty Mighty Bosstones), Jon Spencer (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), Ian McKay (Fugazi), Angelo Moore (Fishbone), etc, etc.

I never really got starstruck around anyone. I just talk to them like I Would anyone else really. If they are cool, I'll keep talking.

Oh yeah....almost forgot.... I met some of the Wu one time. I was misbehaving on the street outside of where they were recording once. They joined in the misbehaving for a few then went inside.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
