Family Dynamics at my shower...AHH

So my BM's and few friends from school are throwing me a shower and the invites just got delivered to everyone yesterday!!! So I am a little worried about everyone getting together though!! My FMIL and my FSMIL (step-mom in law) have never met one another, this will be the first time AT MY SHOWER! Both of them called yesterday freaking out about seeing one another! Plus my mom will see my dad's side of the family (grandma & aunts) for the first time since their divorce too!

I am trying to now worry but I cant seem to think something will be said or looks will be exchanged!! Or that fact that it will just be akward!! Guess their better be a lot of champagne flowing!! shots.gif

Yikes- that does suck. But I'm assuming this won't be the last of the meetings either. They have to be around each other for the wedding, the whole trip, etc. Better to get the meeting done and over with.

Not to mention, when kiddies get in the picture, I'm assuming they might be around each other for that too. Like birthday parties, etc.

The good thing- I'm sure they respect and love you enough to keep it civil. And I absolutely agree- keep the bubbly flowing. It always helps me in uncomfortable situations.

I'm sure it will all work out - it's a bridal shower, so it's not as if there is anything that should arise that would ruffle feathers. Worst case, if something does come up, have your hostesses pull people aside and suggest that it's an important day for you, so maybe it's best to have the discussion on another day. They'll get it.

oh man we have had that discussion...we already have to celebrate christmas/birthdays/etc for days to get everyone in and without hurting anyones feelings!

Thanks ladies for the encouragement! Lets hope they pull it together and behave for 2 hours!! Maybe then it won't be as akward as you said at the wedding...Hopefully!

eeek i feel you -- this is exactly the reason why i have a shower for friends/my stepmom and a separate shower for my mom and her family -- my mom is nuts, and im not taking chances.

hopefully your family and inlaws can hold it together like adults. however, that being said, i know that mine wouldnt be able to which is why we did 2 showers.

oh man Maura...I am sorry, I totally feel your pain!! I should have totally done that! Although maybe now my friends can mediate the whole thing if one of them actually does get mouthy!! fryingpan.gif

my parents have been divorced since 1992, but my mom still cant be civil with my dad/stepmom. i asked my aunt who is throwing my one shower if i could invite my s-mom because im close with her and my aunt actually flat out said no! she said i think if you want your s-mom involved, you should have another shower haha

she's right though! my mom is a total nightmare.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
