Reception Question...

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this question yet but what is the average dw reception like. After everyone has dinner, is the reception over? If you do you have music during dinner and if you have a dj, do you have a party where the traditional garder/bouquet toss takes place? Or does everyone just go their seperate ways?

There really isnt any average, I dont think anyway. Some people go all out and follow every tradition and others keep some traditional components and toss some also.

We for example, will have bouquet, wedding attire, bestman and maid of honor, a gazebo ceremony, and DJ reception with most likely a buffet dinner and ofcourse dancing and cocktails. And Photographer. oh and mother son dance. and first dance together.

However we WONT be having....

Cake

Garter Toss

Wedding Bands (we are getting tattood)

bridesmaids

groomsmen

father daughter dance

I'm sure theres more but I'm not remembering at the moment.

Really the whole point of a DW is that you can create your own special day and keep the traditions that are important to you and ommit the other ones.

I think depends on how many people you are expecting and how formal/traditional you want to be.

Our reception is going to be fairly traditional with dinner, a cake and a DJ. We're doing the father/daughter, mother/son, first dance. We're not doing the boquet or garter toss. It's basically going to be a big, fun party.

Some people go all out and have fire dancers, fireworks, salsa dancers, cigar rollers....the options are endless.

The beauty of having a DW is that anything goes. You can do as little or as much as you want. We are having a dinner, cake and then depending on the time we may end up at a club downtown. We'll pretty much wing in that day. Anything goes.... shoot maybe we'll all put on our swim suites after dinner and go for a swim in the pool,,,, anything goes.. :-)

Funny you should mention swimming in the pool...we went to his cousin's wedding at a resort and after the dinner and dancing...the groom and his friends all jumped into the pool...with thier atire on! It was halirous...then we moved into another indoor pool...and everyone changed into suits and we were playing stupid ass games in the pool for hours! It was the greatest wedding reception we had been apart of!! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
