ceiba del mar hotel and spa

Recommended Posts

Hi Maritza, I was originally planning my wedding with Azul Beach but two and a half months prior to our wedding they started acting funny and my TA discovered that they were overbooked and weren't going to be able to accommodate our entire group (about 50 people and this was off-season).  They came back to us and wanted to move some of our guests to their sister hotel Azul Sensatori.  We were furious since we absolutely did not want to spllt up our group.  Thankfully our TA was able to cancel the contract and rebook us at Ceiba.  Needless to say I was completely freaked out about re-planning a wedding in 2 months, and more than a little concerned about the lack of night life there, but it was positively the best thing we did!  If your group likes to party, trust me it will be a party every night!  We did a bonfire on the beach one night which was a lot of fun, and the penthouse patio is a great place for after hours drinking, it really is what you and your guests make of it.  Good luck with your planning!

ps:  we invited 120 people and only expected about 30, we got 47.  More people than you think want a good excuse to go to Mexico!  :)

Hi Brenners, Our TA did all of our negotiating with the hotel and was able to get us comps and upgrades that we felt were an awesome savings.  I would highly recommend using a TA, it was the best thing we could have done!  I'm happy to give you my TA's name if you don't have one yet (don't worry, no kick backs and she is a godsend!).  That said, we had booked the master suite, but were told if there was availability, they would upgrade us to the penthouse suite.  Since we were going in the off-season (late October) they called us a week before and let us know we were getting the penthouse suite, plus many of our guests were upgraded as well from deluxe to masters.  So we felt like our group got a great deal!  Depending on when you are going and what their availability (7 penthouses) I'd say you may not need to book the penthouse, unless you absolutely can't live without it!  I will say it was really nice to have the penthouse, but the master suites were super nice as well!  :)

Thanks savybride! I heard the beach isn't as nice at Azul Sensatori. It's a bit more rocky. I guess we'll see going to see if I can get in contact tomorrow with the hotel or wc at Azul beach. Fingers crossed. I already want my date and place. Loved Ceiba! Diana was so helpful and great. It's definitely. Great hotel :)

Hi Maritza,

I wanted to add some feedback in from my experience at the Azul Sensatori.  I want to start off by saying I respect that everyone has different likes and opinions in the resorts and what my preference may be, might not be someone elses . I have read about similiar experiences with Azul Beach that Saverybride went through with promising all the guests would be in one hotel and then splitting them up between the Azul Beach and Azul Sensatori when the guests were onsite.  Sounds like a headache you don't want to be dealing with onsite.  Now I never went to Azul Beach, but I did do an overnight site visit with the Azul Sensatori. I had high expectations going in since they offered great packages.  All I can say is thank goodness we actually stayed there because I got to see the hotel in a whole new light.  Personally it was not the scene we wanted for our guests and the ceiba del mar out shined the other hotels.  It had a spring break feel and was catered to the European crowd. Things that we experienced when staying there -lots of cigarette smoking, pool was dirty, food at restaurants was subpar and guest rooms were beautiful but had a swamplike smell to them.  I had read about it but didn't believe it until I experienced it first hand. There is a difference between damp and musty which you can expect in this climate.  Another thing to point out is that the beach is topless.  I'm not trying to discourage you but just provide you some insight if you havne't had the opportunity to spend the night.  Good luck with whatever you decide and happy planning!

Hi Brenners!  Yes, we're getting married there on July 9, 2011.  I'm sooo excited!!!  We actually looked at 5 resorts when we did our site selection visit -Grand Velas, Azul Sensatori, Barcelo, Moon Palace & the Ceiba del Mar.  There was just something about the Ceiba that felt right.  We loved the authentic Mexican feel and that it was a boutique resort.  For us we wanted a smaller venue so that everyone could be together.  Plus the food was great and the staff very friendly!

What did you decide?

I have to say that my FI and I felt the same way when we were there.  It was so funny because we called them last minute on our last full day there asking if they could take us on a tour.  Dianna was great and showed us around.  Really took the time to talk to us and ask us about what we were looking for.  It felt like home when we were there.  Strange to say I know but that is just how it felt.  We haven't officially decided yet but I really hope that Ceiba works out.  I am so happy for you both Tweets and KPSouthie!  I cannot wait to see your wedding photos!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
