Picked a place!! Riu Merengue

Recommended Posts

OK I have been on this forum for a year and have gone through, what feels like, a million locations and we finally picked. We leave Ottawa January 1st 2009! We picked the Riu Merengue for a number of reasons 1) Price was right ($1210 per person) with a price guarentee. So if we find it listed cheaper anywhere (up unitl 60 days prior to departure) my travel agent will match it. 2) It is a stay at one play at three. This is great for those who want to upgrade to the Bachata or save a couple of bucks and stay at the Mambo. Also I can put my seperated parents on different resorts and they won't run into each other as much! 3) Free weddings with a dinner. 4) Sunquest flies out of all the Canadian cities we need it to. 5) and of course it looks great and has a ton of great reviews.

If you have stayed here or have any tips about it (good or bad) please let me know.

I've stayed there. Its a nice resort. The food is pretty good. If some of your guests want something more luxurious there is the palace one there and they were building another one when I was there 2 years ago.

I saw them setting up for a wedding on the beach when I was there it looked very nice. If you have some specific questions let me know I'll see if I can remember or dig some pics out for you.

I know this isn't going to sound like a very reliable source to get a review from, but the lady does my waxing just went to the Riu Merengue & wouldn't stop talking about how great it was the entire time she was waxing me!! lol

Saraece,

I have stayed at this RIU complex several times, at both the Merengue and the Bachata. (The bachata has a nicer pool, the Merengue has nicer hotel rooms).

It's a lovely complex.

The only thing I will tell you offhand is that if your guests stay at a different RIU within (eventhough, you can use all 3 different resorts),

i.e. The wedding is at the Bachata and they are staying at the Bambu or Merengue, you still have to pay "day passes" for them to be at your resort PER PERSON to be at your wedding. So make sure everyone stays at your resort because you will have to pay.

I have a ton of pics if you'd like to see them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
