what's in a name?

baptismal name never heard of such a thing. i had heard of confirmation names before, and actually the passport lady had suggested it might be a confirmation name, but my baptism was pretty much my first and LAST foray into church/religion (i received no other sacraments and never really went to church. these days if i had to label myself i would say i'm agnostic).

i will probably try to add it when i change my last name, just because i've had it (or thought i had it) for so long (i don't even particularly love it ... it's SO common ... i just feel like a dumbass now ) i joked about picking a totally new middle name, and one of my friends suggested "danger" HAHA!

"DANGER IS MY MIDDLE NAME!!!!!"

oh and i think it's very cool when brides take on their maiden names as new middle names but my last name is long and unpronounceable so i don't think that'll work! it's a shame too, since my father didn't have any boys, and he was the only son his parents had, so the name ends with me.

I'm not changing mine at all said if we have kids they will have a double barrelled name, its the name i was born with and i'm keeping it lol

When my little brother was like 12 my mom took to to the airport to get on the plane and when they went through the check they pulled them aside and told them he was on the no fly list! My mom was like what the heck? Said he was wanted for a felony and had to report to some station. When they got there my Mom was freaking out. Ended up some dude with the same name and birthdate is on a no fly list the only difference was my little bro was born in 1990 and this dude was born in like 1957. Sometimes, still to this day it happens to him and he has to explain the date.

I'm sure it was troubling but it is also really funny if your mom did that. Parents tell there kids things and forget to tell them the truth later on. Not such a big deal but my mom told me that chocolate milk came from brown cows and white milk came from white cows (jokingly). I was always really gullible. Being lactose intolerant, I believed her until an embarrassing situation in 6th grade....parents.

 

If you feel it is a part of your identity you could totally add it when you switch your last name.

hahaha LMAO at chocolate cows! my mom told me my childhood dog was given away to a farm where she had more room to run around and play with the other animals. it wasn't until i was in my 20s when someone else was talking about sending a pet "to the farm" that i remembered my mom's story and put it all together! to think, i was so gullible i thought patches really was frolicking on some farm!

then again, if i was putting my kid's dog to sleep, i don't think they'd be getting the real story from me either! and i guess as kids we believe what we want to believe, ya know? i was a bright child i don't know how i didn't put it together!

now i want to believe my puppydog is frolicking with chocolate cows, lol!

My mom told me the chocolate milk one too. Also, I use to throw a fit when she would wash my hair. I never wanted her to put conditioner in. So, she told me the only way to get the shampoo out was with the conditioner. She only told me that one time but until I was about 13 I thought that was what conditioner was for LOL to get the shampoo completely out of your hair

As our family was working on putting together our geneology, we found that my Great Grandmother didn't have a middle name, so when she immigrated from Norway, she decided to give herself one. Legally it wasn't part of her name, but in her everyday life it was.

As for dropping my maiden name, I am having a hard time deciding if I want to do that. I have had this name for so long, and it is a part of me. So I was thinking of hyphenating it or adding it as a middle name and both our kids have my last name as a middle name. I don't know if it is the same in the states as it is here in AB, Canada, but my friend works in a registry agency, and when I suggested that I make my name another middle name, she told me that I can't unless I do a legal name change. Turns out when you get married, you assume his last name. It is still legal, but paperwork is different, I think the cost and waiting time is different, and if you end up getting divorced (let's not worry about this happening!) than it is easy to drop his name and take your own back, rather than having to do another legal name change. Just something to think about and look into in your area. If I hyphenate my name, when signing legal documents, I would have to write it all out, but in everyday life you can use just one!
