Am I being a Bridezilla? I don't want a Redneck wedding!

Okay - while I appreciate all that everyone is doing for us - this happened yesterday.

FMIL knew that we were in the process of changing the BM dresses and that we may change the wedding colors. We ended up changing our wedding colors from a royal/light blue/ivory to teal/light blue/ivory. Instead of waiting, FMIL orders us sewing kits for the OOT bags white with navy blue writing. Okay - no biggie since they are going in the OOT bags anyway. Then she orders navy blue matches for our cigar table. UGH.....she should have waited two days - what's the rush!!??

Then, my step mom - who is an Oriental Trading Junkie - orders us some sort of jewlery bag for our rings and bride and groom visors. Well, my FMIL already found us a light blue mini sombrero for our rings - which is something I asked her to look for when she went to Mexico. (I was going to tie our rings on the sombrero with a teal ribbon). So when step mom tells me about the jewlery bags - I'm like uh...ok..but I'm thinking to myself - what am I going to do with them?

On Sunday we went to Target and found cute white baseball caps with "Bride" in rhinestones. (Yep - in the dollar bin!) When we get home FI says "I will never wear that crap". (He's too manly) So when stepmom tells me about the visors I'm thinking..oh great, she is going to pull it out and Shawn is going to laugh in her face. Then to top it off, she says, "The bride visor is kind of plain so I was going to decorate it with some flowers".

FLOWERS!! WTFhuh.gif Her style is SO 1980's! I know stepmom is trying to help, but she keeps buying stuff we've already bought. She also told me she wanted to order some candles and mirrors for the tables. I told her to hold off until I hear from the WC. (I had to stop her frenzy somehow)

I feel like if I don't pull them in some way, my wedding is going to end up looking like an episode of "My big Redneck Wedding" - only in Mexico! I absolutely appreciate the thought behind it, but now they are running amuck!

How do I get them under control and say it without seeming like a Bridezilla?

Just be honest with them. Tell them you really appreaciate them trying to help but to run things by you before they buy anything, because you may have already bought it and you don't want them wasting their money. Maybe give them a list of things they can buy (like silly OOT stuff). They are just wanting to help you out and don't know how.

Uggh..these things are always tricky because you don't want to seem ungrateful, but if it's not you it's not you. (btw flowers on my visor would not be for me either!) They mean well but sometimes people do things for themselves more than for us, not saying that's what they are doing, but it happens. I agree to be honest, better to get it out of the way now than at your DW when you're approached with the floral hat :P

Wow!!!

I agree, you should let them know that you think everyone should consult you before purchasing anything else for your wedding. Not because you don’t appreciate their help, but because you don't know what is provided by the resort yet, what other people have already bought, and you don't want them to waist their money on stuff you might not be able to use. We really want to pick out our own accessories so we just let everyone know from the beginning not to buy us any wedding stuff. We really want to pick our own cake topper, guest book, wedding album, etc. so everything matches and flows well. I think everyone understands that. It's your wedding and that doesn't make you a bridezilla, haha.

Well - FMIL calls me earlier and said that her order for the blue matches and sewing kits didn't go through for some reason!

WOO HOOO!! smile159.gif

So she re-ordered everything and got it in my colors!

I am SO HAPPY! I am so happy - I could do a happy dance! smile29.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
