Did you REALLY stay out of the sun?

Recommended Posts

There was no way I was going to be able to not be in the sun in Cabo! Although, like Jamy mentioned, the days leading up to the wedding were pretty busy, so it's not like I got to languish on the beach all day. But realistically, every where I went, there was the sun. I did tan a bit before heading down to Cabo, so I had a great base tan. I just kept up with the sun screen & wore strapless stuff before the big day. I was most worried about my face - I tend to get this neat hyperpigmentation in warm climates that makes me look like I'm wearing a funky mask...so I kept a visor or hat on for sure.

I'm whitey-white so I wore SPF 50 every day and wore strapless bathing suit. I also bought one of those cute dresses in mexico to wear over my suit that was strapless. My DH didn't quite get my entire back with the sunscreen and I was a little blotchy, just on my back so it didn't show in most photos.

I also tried to avoid the sun (it was really hot!) by using the umbrellas by the pool or just hanging in the shade. Wedding day I was barely outside at all until the ceremony.

I came home with a nice tan despite wearing 50 each day. :)

My prewedding meeting will only be 30 minutes so i won't have that to keep me busy. I can definitly stay under an umbrella by the pool. I just want to make sure the sun avoidance doesn't get in the way of having fun. I don't think it has to.

The day before the wedding we are going to the ruins at Coba & snorkeling in a cenote. I will need to slather on the suncreen for that trip.

last time I was in cancun I got an amazing tan. The best I've ever had. I'm hoping instead of burning I tan. I think as long as you are really careful & know what kind of protection your skin needs you can still participate in all the fun stuff before the wedding.

My dress has straps, but is really low cut. So as I pick out tank tops & stuff to wear the days before I keep my dress in mind. But, that means everything I wear will be really low cut. I even got a swimsuit coverup dress with a plunging neckline.

The only thing I didn't find was a swimsuit with straps that do not tie around my neck. I wanted one that had straps like a bra. I was surprised they were hard to find. So I'll need to be careful with my swimsuit. I'll only wear the tops with thin straps before the wedding because those dont give me tanlines as long as I move the straps enough.

If I was outside sitting by the pool I would sit in shade, if I was out walking around I wore sun screen and shirts that covered my shoulders. I was there 4 days before our wedding. I also had a really good tan before I went, just be careful and think about what your doing and you should be fine.

All of the above are good suggestions. I've planned for strapless suits & dresses. I'm also tanning now, so I have 2 months to get a deep base. I'm so pale I'm clear, but I do tan fairly easily.

Be sure to moisturize everyday after being in the sun so you don't peel. I also like the Jergens or Neutrogena tinted lotions to blend lines if you do get them.

I was so perplexed when my photographer (who we met during a site visit) looked at me and said "this color is not good you need to stay out of the sun before the wedding". WTF? I wasnt burnt at all just a nice tan, i didnt get it and I definitly will not be hideing in the resort hotel room for the 3 days before the wedding. Yah right. Ofcourse I told him I would but HELLO vacation=pool and beach and cocktails buddy!

I am SUPER pale, so I tried to get a base tan before I went (at the tanning salon) and then I was just super careful once we got there. Then again, we arrive on Thursday for a Saturday wedding....

I was crazy about making my husband wear sunscreen! I did not want him to get fried and ruin the pics either!

I am concerned about this too! We arrive on Monday and the wedding is on Friday. Yikes! I tan very well, so hopefully I will be okay. I plan on wearing lots of strapless sundresses that week. I will always wear a hat to protect my face too.

My A plan is not to be in the sun much, over-do it on sunblock (they're as high as 70 spf lol!), and wear a big hat!

My backup plan was to go strapless on everything, however at my final fitting I realized my back was lower than anything strapless so the bandeu tops I bought arent going to work anyway if I do get lines lol!

Also, the shade at the pool bar - HA "shade" - will be my new BFF! wink.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
